I've got a birthday coming up which I'm hoping to get enough cash to get a down sleeping bag (unless wifey is feeling REALLY generous ). Up till now I've been looking at the PD600 but I've just seen teh Golite Adrenaline 20, anyone had any experience with this? With either of them I'd have to try it and find out if they fit me, but it does look like a nice bag, really like the center zip.

Golite bags are in a different class from Alpkit. Their Feather bag [what I have] was best in test by Chris Townsend in TGO a few years ago, and once you get used to the centre zip its no problem and from what I can see on their site the Adrenaline would be the same quality. Thoroughly recommended.

I'm impressed with the Golite gear I've used so far and a sleeping bag is the next step. If possible I would like one with the centre zip so its ticking all the boxes. Is it worth the extra cash though. Also if I can stretch to the Golite bag how does that compare with the Nunatek Alpinist 20 (similar price with current exchange rate. Cheers for the reply.

Ok, if I do end up spending a bit extra, I'm torn between the Golite Adrenaline and the Nunatak Alpinist, what are peoples experiences. And just to throw another one in...quilts... never tried it but the Nunatak back country blanket looks really good, especially as a 2 person cover in summer, how do they fair in colder conditions though - inside a bivvi bag?

Hi Matt. I've ordered an Arc Specialist quilt from Nunatak. The Specialist has more room in the girth, so it's easier to wrap around in colder conditions. This is my first go with a quilt, but like you, the idea has intrigued me for a while. The Nunatak website is full of tempting goodies!

I'm thinking that if its used in a bivvi bag and wrapped around the zip won't matter much. How accurate are the comfort ratings.

Quilts are used by many in the US at a lot colder temps than we get. Search the www.backpackinglight.com forum for plenty of info. I intend to use different clothes in mine depending on time of year. The beauty of a quilt is that you can layer under it with another bag or down clothes for really cold conditions. I ordered mine with a highly water-resistant and breathable Epic shell to protect it from condensation in a bivvy, and water splash under a tarp. I ordered black so any moisture would dry off quicker in the sun. 510g. Not bad for a 0c rated bag. As for comfort ratings, everyone is different. I love the idea for summer use when you can just use it as a blanket.

Yeah, i thought of getting a Hudson River quilt from them Shuttleworth. The reason i went to Nunatak was the choice of fabrics. I wanted a water resistant shell. The quilt with a hood thing wouldn't work in this country. Imagine walking into any climbers bar in the hills wearing one of them.

I'm awaiting a Golite down quilt and already have two Alpkit bags so will be able to give you a direct comparison shortly.......
