Does anyone have an English version of the Veron guide for the pyrenean haute route that I can either borrow or buy please?  Can't find one anywhere and I am planning to do the trek in July.  Thanks.

Why don't you buy Ton Joostens book?

There will be 46 stages in the next one (2009)

Andy, I'm pretty sure I have the Veron book but I'm not sure quite how old my copy is - I'll check. But on recent trips I've also preferred the Cicerone guide by Ton Joosten. (It is heavier though!)

Cheers. I have the joosten book. Consensus of opinions I have sought is that the veron guide is better, and is half as light so I really want a copy!

I think Matt that the last English version ever published was in 1991 and there hasn't been one since. However, I know someone who used that one a couple of years ago and it is still sound. They don;t want to part with it as it is a treasured item, which I can understand!  You couldn't dig yours out for me could you? I would be very grateful!

Andy, I've had a look and mine is 1981, which looks like the earliest version of the English version. (lol, shows how long ago I first thought of heading that way - I got a gammy knee and didn't make my first trip to the Pyrenees until 1990!)

I don't know how much things have changed - some of the valley facilities will no doubt be different (but Joosten will have those so you could make notes) - I expect the majority of the mountain route info still stands...?

Your call, Andy. I don't want to sell it but you can borrow it if you think it'll be any use.

2 years ago when I walked the route ref. Comes de Jan to Vall d'incles:

Veron's route isn't simple

(he goes to collada del clot sord-, it's an old path, not marked well)

Ton Joosten stays on the GRP.

See what i mean on http://www.muot.ad/imatges/ct/Full%2004.pdf

Why nobody goes via France (L'ariege)?

A good spot
