I spent the weekend in (a slightly damp) pembroke. Now I've got back I'm a bit concerned about my kit.

I know you have to wash climbing kit due to salt water corrosion ect. But is there anything else that needs taking care of specially? (e.g. Walking boots/tent/stove etc)

Anything that could be damaged by the salt I guess!

I'd deffo sort out your boots, along with any other leather gear.

Anything metal would probably benefit from a clean too.

Not sure about the tent to be honest, but rinsing it off wont hurt it.

Not a massive help, I know. But thats the approach I'd take.

Just get the salt off everything you can. I've had boots eaten by salt. So just try your best to get it off everything. It can't hurt to wash your gear :)

Better safe than sorry.

Salt water is veryyyyy destructive. My fabric Brashers fell apart (rand came off, stitching split) after walking thro sea water on the Abel Tasmin path in New Zealand - the guide book said it was ok to take a short cut if the tide was out but there was still too much water around!.

On the other hand I have walked across to Lindisfarne at the end of the St Cuthberts Way when the tide has been not quite out in my ancient Clark sandals and they are still going strong - interesting that the first ever walking boots I owned were fabric Brashers made by Ks of Kendal which are now part of Clarks, but the ones that fell apart were made in Portugal, cos it was cheaper or some such reason.
