How do you store yours?

I've got an ever-growing collection of maps in my house. At the moment they're in cardboard magazine holders which is great for easy access but not particularly economical use of space. Where do you store yours? On bookcases? In the filing cabinet?

Then put some shelves up.

In drawers under the shelves of my bookcase's.  I usually leave the odd one out on the shelf as well.

BTW all mine are filled too.

They are like roads, more roads + more cars etc...

Oh. the map you want is never where it should be.

It's left in the backpack from your last outing, the last place you look!

A few years back I found I had so many maps I just couldn't keep them neat on bookshelves, so I bought 2 big storage crates from IKEA and organised them all in there, one for UK one for overseas. The crates live in my gear room under the clothes rail. I've culled them a couple of times, reducing duplication etc., but they're full to bursting again just now - somehow I just keep on buying more maps!

On the bookcase,

Just when I think it won't hold anymore, I squeeze another in - and then another - and then another.......

They seem to compress well.

Some are in a pile over here, and another pile over there, there are even some piled on top of the bookshelf - it's a complex system related to dewey decimal but with a spacial temporal memory element.

................................................Hard drive?

No seriously thogh this is sommat Ive wondered about. Mine are currently in piles ontop of my record players, some are in a bookcase and some are on the table next to the PC.

Maybe OS/Harveys etc should sell a purpose built case or stand like the ones for shops? Untill then its the bookcase I think.

When I moved into this house, I was going to block up an old fireplace, but I decided to make it into a recessed space full of shelves instead. It's completely stuffed with maps. All my British and Irish maps are there... OS, OSI, OSNI, Harveys and other independents. Maps of other countries tend to be located elsewhere, alongside other bits and bobs relating to each country, on other shelves.

Mine are on a bookcase.  I too have almost more books than bookcases but I have room for more bookcases and shelves when I get around to it.

Guess where you should start looking first in future?

Maps - old ones are on a bookcase, but the newer, waterproof ones are in a document case, with compasses & GPS, all easily at hand.

ahhh, you are much more organised than me Ian, I tend to store my maps in big boxes, completely forget what maps i already have or not locate the one i need and sometimes end up buying the same map again

er.....I even have 3 copies of some maps.......
