HI guys,

Was in Snow and Rock in Chertsey trying to find some boots for my strange shaped feet but wasn't really impressed with the service.  Can anywhere recommend somewhere with a good range who will spend some time with me and know what they're doing?  Itchyfeet on Oxford Street?  Outdoors shop Milton Keynes?

Thanks,

Mark

I've used Itchy Feet (I think it's just off Oxford Street rather than on it, Mark), and they were very good. Had a reasonable selection of boots, including Kayland which is what I wanted to try and what I ended up buying. I don't have 'strange shaped feet', but do have peculiarly skinny and flat ones so am not totally straight-forward to fit either.

Itchyfeet are on Wardour Street, aren't they? I've not shopped with them (or down south  at all really) but have only ever heard good things about them....   and from several different people.

Itchy feet are good in general - ive never tried them for boots tho.

Theres a skinny guy who works in Ellis Brigham (covent garden) who helped me choose my boots last year and Ive no complaints - he seems to be the one all the other staff run to when they have technical queries - I tried half the shop on and went with Meindl Burma's for the cooler 3 seasons. Dunno his name i'm afraid.

Covent garden shops cluster would be my starting point - then try snow and rock just a bit N, wander over to Itchy on wardour street and if thats no good try the ellis brigham and the swanky blacks on kensington hight st - they had stock they dont normally have in most Blacks (the new Osprey packs).

Ive always found the bald guy in snow and rock chertsey very helpful.Failing that Field and Trek in Guildford have been o.k though the shop and range is tiny.

Snow and Rock in Covent Garden seem very good, they spent about 3/4 of an hour with me about 3 months ago fitting boots. They seemed to find more reasons for me not buying those I fancied than reasons for, which is a refreshing change. Some of their range in my size were out of stock so I left without boots but they did phone me (down in S Wales) when they had new stock. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back up there yet.

Mal, there's a Snow n Rock in Bristol - have you tried them? Or do you want to go back to London for the particular boot fitter?

I sometimes meet my daughter there after she finishes work early on a Friday. She indulges me because I like Covent Garden. We have something to eat and drink and then head back to Euston to meet son in law from work. Thanks for the heads up btw.

slush and rubble coebt garden can be a bit hit and miss - it was the last place where i had to patiently explain that i didn't really care what the show size thingy said, i wasn't that size and patiently tried to unsuccessfully cram a foot into the "correct" size shoe until i was believed.

there is one extremely good guy in there though.

ellis brigham used to have a guy who was quite good. he was fine on the shoes but crap on the socks "advice".

itchy feet are generally good - had a nice chat in there with a guy who hated goretex shoes even more than i did but it's what the deluded customer wanted.

i'd start with itchy feet (comiong from watford) and then take a wander down to covent garden for the group of shops there. if you contine down wardour street you could even take lunch in the infamous Wong Kei for a big plate of cheap chinese food - stick to the plate meals i.e. something and rice/noodles or a big bowl of soup like won ton noodle soup. a bit oif a dive but the food is very good for the money. important information: don't argue with the waiters and sit where you're put. and it's cash only.
