I'm looking for lightweight summer trousers that breathe well and dry quickly and are well cut for climbing steep bits. Has anyone got a pair ? Grateful for any views or experiences ...

Cheers Judy

John Manning wrote in TGO a while back that they were his favorite trousers. Though he has got short fat hairy legs so having pertex straight on them does not bother him. Personally I find that a bit chilly. I use a pair of Montane featherlite trousers but only as over trousers on top of things like silk long johns or my favorite summer trousers the montane terra convertables. The featherlites really cut out the wind and a fair bit of rain. Not very strong tho. I was looking into the travelites as a more robust alternative, but they are rather hard to find in the flesh and seem quite expensive. Instead I came across some Paramo fuera trousers in a sale which are much stronger (tho heavier).

In practice however I usually use the featherlites, and they've lasted OK. I am careful to use gaiters when heather bashing and not to slither over rocks in them.

Thanks for that Dandy. Good tip about Montane featherlights; I'll look at them. Was flicking through my old copy of Chris Townsends round of the Munroes and he likes Travelites too. If JM and CT like them they must work well ...

Cheers Judy

How about Montane Terra Lites? I wore a pair all last summer. Thigh vents for cooling off were very useful.
