what's best? Hilleberg or Terra Nova, someone please - I'm ready to be bored to death.

Horses for courses. They both make good tents.

Like knowing the names of God, I guess that the day there is a single answer to the question of the best solo tent, the world will blink out of existence.

Are you trying to bore Glyn with philosophy, Duncan?

Like knowing the names of God,

Which one? I know some folk who've got lots of invisible friends with a multitude of names.

Glyn - if you want a one-person tent then I'd say the Akto is the better one. Two-person+ & it gets more complicated. TN make some really good tents, but then so do Hilleberg. I did like my Nallo 2 GT, but really wanted a Superlite Solar 2.2 - very different tents, but which is best? Depedns what features you want.

I could bore him with something else instead Kate

For me the answer was Akto, as it ticked the boxes, and had various recommendations. Others want lighter. Others want more bomb-proofedness. There is no answer. Unlike the names of God.

Hmmm. maybe think it burns better than an akto

I am reminded of the words of an old Chinese sifu (look it up) that I heard many years ago:

"When men ask me which martial art is best, I say that it is like arguing about which route up a mountain is best.  Once you get to the top, the view is the same, whatever the route."

With the mystical bent that the thread was taking, I'm just going with the flow...

"Depedns what features you want" by CB

fine summary sir, helped me to wake up from this constant chinese water torture of akto...laser...akto...laser, as if there are only 2 decent sub 1.5 kg tents in the world.

The most annoying thing about our society is that if w find we dont like something, well go and change it, even our tents.

Only around 20 yrs ago, you bought a tent, and that was it, you kept it. Consumerism has done nothing for con(tent)ment has it

You're right. I bought an Ultimate Tramp II nearly 30 years ago. I replaced it earlier this year. I hope my Akto lasts as long, and me with it!
