Am looking for some information on mapping software for travelling in and around europe.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or be able to point me in the right direction.

Budget contraints prevent me from paying LOADS of money...

Depends if by travelling you mean by car, so you need route planning software (if so try www.viamichelin.co.uk free on the web), or software to plan walking routes?

What I was actually looking for was this...

 I have a sub-notebook which I am considering taking with me on a cycle tour of europe, starting probably around September time.

I am either going to take this, loaded with some sort of mapping software on it (obviously for use in potentially "remote" areas), or:

buy a michelin road map of europe.

I would ideally prefer the laptop / software option, as it means I can take this and use it in internet cafes etc. and am only carrying one, as opposed to both.

Just to complicate further, the laptop only has an internal HDD of around 3GB, so would need to be less than this, or on an external pen drive / HDD.

Not sure of the exact plan as yet, but probably Holland, Germany, (maybe somewhere more east at this point - Poland, Ukraine, Hungary), Slovenia, Italy, (Switzerland), France, home...

Admittedly, for street mapping only.  And online only...

nokia maps do a download for the n series phones that has street maps of most countries , you just download the ones you want and upload it to your phone .
