I made a rare purchase of Trail magazine yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the both the quantity and quality of the content. A very good article by Simon Ingram on going lightweight and an interesting account of a bikepacking trip in the Lake District. OK, the lightweight tent review somehow managed to exclude the Akto but I understand that that may be due to the manufacturer failing to submit a sample on time. Lots of genuinely useful advice and tips, some of which I already knew but a fair smattering of new stuff and some nice route suggestions with helpful guidance on timings, navigational demands etc. No connection BTW.

A good magazine just a bit to pricey, i always feel a little bit short changed when i get to the end of it. But i have to admit that the August edition was a good read, so maybe that makes up for the price.

I read it but didn't see the article on Simon going lightweight. There was an article where he listed some, but not all, of his kit.

Trail can be a good read but I find a lot of the style of its writers very irritating (note: NOT PTC)

Hmm, not read Cotswold Outdoors catalogue...sorry, Trail Mag for yonks but wonder if the "lightweight in the lakes" article has any vague similarities to the "lightweight in the lakes" article they ran year before last......

TGO seems to have hit the right note this month as well - must be the weather
|
 |
Ah, TGO is an excellent read this month
|
 |
I still look forward to my TGO and Trail each month, Country Walking too which I feel over the last year has matured some what. I like them all for different reasons but still love them all and look forward to my monthly reads.

Anyone know what the subscription gift is this month?
|
 |
 is it a self-inflating mat?

I'm with Jamie on this one, some naff content (womens kit reviews in TGO - some will not agree with this!!) but overall they all do a good job and prompt involvement in the outdoors which is grand.

Jon - I think TGO has a pair of £20-odd powerstretch gloves, plus a couple of other cheaper things.

Jim Perrin was actually readable this month. Not too keen on the womens gear reviews, surely they can review some gear under the one article.

I agree. Not everything is Trail is good. Matt Swaine's bikepacking story was not enhanced by a tortuous metaphor attempting to link himself and the Lake District with Huckleberry Finn and the Mississippi... Phil S - you've got a point about the excessive Cotswold Outdoors references. A very expensive retailer to boot.

CO - even with the discount code thats doing the rounds?
|

Which discount code that is doing the rounds?

 messaged

is it a big secret like?
I mean, who'd order from Cotswold online anyway?

I know, to save space, let's scrap the men's gear reviews (sorry CT) and just have the women's ones. If something also comes in a men's fit, it could just say that at the bottom.
