I notice that Scottish Hydro Electric, has increased electricity prices by 19.2%, why is this ? Has the wholesale price of the rain that flows into our lochs went up recently, or are they just profiteering?

And why is it that the closer you drive to the oilfields in Scotland, the more expensive the petrol gets?

It's because the new water isn't as heavy as the old stuff, see clicky link, and so doesn't generate as much power.

May be we are on the verge of rumbling some sinister plot. Subversive groups could be removing all the "Heavy Water" for the production of a Nuclear bomb Clickity Link, hence leaving us with this lightwieght stuff that, as you say, doesn't generate as much power.

May be the authorities are already on the case another clickity link, searching possible subversives disguised as hillwalkers that my be smuggling bottles of heavy water!

Perhaps it's because of the increased fuel costs for the lorries that have to transport the electricity from the dam to the cities

import costs. you are importing the south east's rain. the windmills on hills drive the rain towards scotland.
