my wife kindly bought me the shelterstone for my birthday. it seems to be a brilliant jacket and gets great reviewes etc. however i have 1 major problem wth it. i can't get my head round the hood. i can't tighten it for love nor money. to get a decent fit i hve to wear a peaked cap and i find this pointless.
to tighten it properly it appears the front zip needs to be open to get at the elastic and toggles - a bit pointless if it is persisting down. i am also warey about tightening the tightener at the back as it seems a bit delicate.
i'm so used to my M.E. kongur and matrix where the hoods are brilliant.
to be truthful, i'm also having probs with the hem cords as they at the front of the jacket, unlike every other piece of kit own, which are on the sides.
obviously i can't tell the wife about this problem or i won't get anything for xmas. please help me !!!!!!
I adjusted the hood on mine first time and have left it like that, rather adjust it each time. I've just loosened and re-tightened it to see what you mean.......yes you do have to have the zip slightly down to adjust the toggles, and use the tightener on the back (doesn't seem that delicate and works well). Once done though you can leave it like that, and at least theres no toggles to whip around your face in the wind.
move the plastic sliders down the twin elastic cord, leaving a small loop above it. When adjusted simply let go of the adjuster - as with the other adjusters once set how I like it I generally leave them like that.
The adjusters apart, it's a really nice jacket, and has taken over from my ME Changabang as my default jacket.....it's not as heavy as the Changabang, but still "feels" substantial enough (a lot more so than paclite) and is noticeably more breathable.
