Is there much practical difference in performance betweeen Pro Shell and XCR?

Im looking at getting a new jacket and there seem to be some good deals on the XCR stuff. presumably because its now old stock.

Im not too concerned about the weight diference, just how it performs.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Brian, I've used XCR for a number of years now as my Winter shell.

I Recently switched to Pro Shell ( ME ProLite) and in the 20 or so days I've been out in it its seen a fair bit of prollonged rain!!!I haven't noticed it being too much more breathable than XCR, but its certainly more comfortable, not so much rustle!! It seems pretty tough too, 20 days or so with a 13kg pack on and no signs of wear...

Ah, I see Jon's article covers the main point I'd spotted; that the new scrim makes for easier layering, as it binds less with other layers.
