I am getting a light weight stove and thinkining about the MSR Pocket rocket. Anyone have any good/bad experiences with this stove? Also is there anything better I should be looking at in terms of price/weight/preformance?

Simply put, the Pocket Rocket is a top piece of kit. The only real issue is the normal stability issues with canister-top stoves.

oh, and the pan supports really glow when on full blast - very pretty.

Yep, the Pocket Rocket is pretty much the definitive canister-top stove. Works very well, light and good grippy pan supports, though you won't want to be using 3-litre pans full of water.

Other options are the Primus one (Titanium if you're loaded...) and the new lightweight stove from Karrimor Go-Gas (see site reviews section), both of which incorporate a piezo electric igniter at the cost of a very slight increase in weight.

If you're going to be using big pans then better to swallow hard and go for one of the stoves with a remote burner like the Coleman Alpine or the GoGas equivalent for the sake of stability and spilled soup...

Agree with all above, but it is a great bit of kit.

I've got the Coleman F1 Lite, its quite, eh, light.. Works great. Beware that these stoves should be handled with care-I could bend the pan supports with surprisingly litte pressure on a demo ex in the store.. I bent it back, don't tell the store manager..

Yep, the Pocket Rocket is a fantastic stove as the user reviews will testify. The only downside is the pan supports are a bit flimsy.

I must say I like the look of the Snow Peak ones that Snow and rock are selling these days.

got a pocket rocket as well, good stove, packs down small. there is a set of reviews in august's tgo, with lots of stoves on test. from diddy ones like the pocket rocket and the snow peak jobbies, to bigger ones like the msr superfly and wind pro. might be worth a look. i'd recomend the rocket myself. i use a windshiled with mine, the one from my whisperlite, but i have it wide open and use a paperclip to hold it together. stops the wind and the canister don't get too hot either.

No problems with the PocketRocket. Small, light, easy and fast. Not the quietest stove around, but it's not exactly a Boeing 747 either. Increasingly popular with the walking fraternity down 'ere in Australia. I use a Trangia pan on mine and have no trouble, though it does pay to hold the pot firmly if you are stirring something gluggy. Simmers fairly well, too, for a small burner, though don't neglect to stir your food, or you may get a burnt spot in the middle.

I've got a pocket rocket too (?!). Very good stove, but if you're going to be traveling outside the UK, find out if you can get screw-on gas canisters as they're not always available.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to get a Pocket Rocket at the weekend, although I may take a look at the Snow Peak one too. I will be only using it in the UK and only with a small pan so there should be no problems.
