Hello Everyone

I tried to search for an answer to this but if I searched by relavence I got loads of old stuff and if I searched by date it wasn't at all relavent.

Anyway... I need a couple of 3 man tents to send out with DofE kids. My spec is therefore

Simple to put up with few adjustments

Not massivly technical but it has to stand up to fairly strong winds

Light as possible (under 4kg would be OK)

Fairly roomy (especially in porch area) as they will have 3 big bags with them.

I saw some kids with Vango Tempests the other day and they looked great but they have changed the design from what looked like a nice stable roomy pitch inner first job to a wobbly, low, outer pitch first with lots of straps and stuff.

I've tried to find a vango Tornado 300 but no-one has one in stock but if anyone has any experience of the new design then thoughts would be appreciated.

That is as far as I have go

Thanks

Andy

We tried some Vango Typhoons the other week and there was enough room for 3 in a two man .

Have a look at the vango spectre 300. Fairly spacious, 3.1kg and easy to pitch.

My Scout troop used Force Ten Serracs which are very similar to the current Vango Spirit 300+. Lightweight, huge porches and if pitched properly will take a good beating from the weather, a bit over £200 if you can stretch. I personally use the Spirit 200+ myself.

The Equinox 350 is the next best thing design wise (huge porches are just so handy with groups!), but they are rather heavier.

Vango Equinox 350 is a tent I used as a backup for years and often ended up needing it, so in the end got a 450 for year round car camping. Fantastic tents the Equinox range and have been for over a decade. I would highly recommend the Vango Spirit 300 as its the same design but with lighter materials. Bomb proof construction and its versitile enough to be light enough for backpacking shared between one or two and also big enough for car camping in luxury still. The extended porch area is great for cooking. I've had a Spirit 200 up in gale force winds and it handled it brilliantly, like a well designed tunnel tent, it took the wind instead of standing up to it and breaking. The Spectres do look good too, but I'd rather have the Spirit any day! You don't want three huge rucksacks and a tiny porch.

I've got a Equinox 350 for sale in the classifieds if you were after.

I've also got a Vango Discovery both extremely well made...both with big porches that will take a bike. Bomb proof construction.
