I'm looking for a lightweight, yet durable, sleeping bag liner. I'm pretty sure I want silk as it seems to be the lightest fabric. I also want onw with a hood and I want it to be mummy shape. Rab do one, so also do 'sea to summit' and also jagbags . Jagbags: edura silk blue/violet = £27 mummy with hood includes postage from New Zealand 134g rab 143g (although seen quoted at 134g) for mummy with hood. SaeToSummit: 140g mummy with hood £42 inc postage from ultralightoutdoorgear. The Jagbags is the cheapest with Rab and SeaTosSummit similar price around £40. Any thoughts welcome.

I've had a JagBag Endura silk bag since 2004. They're good. No problems with wear and tear so far. Adds a reasonable amount of warmth to your bag too.

The Rab one I've got at the moment has lasted a lot better than the Sea to Summit one I used to use. It was supposedly of the same thickness silk as the Rab one, but developed holes a lot faster. Never used a Jagbags one.

Sea to Summit has been fine

Silk? Does that keep you warm? If it does, it sounds like a great option though.

Alastair, Decathlon (at least in France) stock a silk liner for a lot less than those you've listed. I don't know how good it is, but bearing in mind the key purpose is keeping your bag clean I can't see that it would make much difference. Just checked here... looks like they're available in the UK too... though I think they are tapered square cut rather than a complete mummy shape...

Jagbags - had mine 2 or 3 years - delivery was prompt - works well - I do get tangled up in it at times, but that would apply to any liner I guess.

Backpackinglight.co.uk do one of their making. I have no experience of it, but I am tempted to get one myself

jagbags , had mine a few years now, great bit of kit for the money, although with the current ex rates not sure what they work out to, i remember mine working out alot cheaper than the alternatives...also remember getting a free pen lol

The Backpackinglight liner is lovely. Recommended

Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I prefer a liner with a hood so I can keep my bag clean around my head, so that would rule out both Backpackinglight and Decathlon though these are both very light at around 100g. That's interesting how an owner of both Rab and SeaToSummit preferred Rab. JagBags - several positive comments. Because of the one negative comment for SeaTSummit, I think it's between Jagbags and Rab. JagBags is £27 which includes postage. Rab £39 inc. postage. I have a few months before I make up my mind. Thanks everyone for your help.

Rab Basic Silk liner- £20.00 from £40.00 at Rock and Run

I've got an Aztec one for sale . I can't find a link for it so they probably don't make them anymore but it feels like very high quality silk. I've had it for a couple of years but it has still only been used the once so still as new. Hang on - here's a link to it: http://www.aktive8.com/p/Aztec/Sleeping-Bag-Liners-Sleeping-Mats/Silk-Sleeping-Bag-Liner/ASLS.html?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=price%2Bcomparison Now £35 new! Bugger - why aren't the links working?

'keeping your bag clean'? is this a thing to do with boy loins, or hair jel? or am i just really mucky and have missed something about sleeping in a bag?

Rab Basic Silk liner- £20.00 from £40.00 at Rock and Run
Thanks for the link. My old one was a bit ripped after being put in the washing machine a few years ago so today I bought a new one from Rock and Run at the bargain price of £20. It is apparently en-route via Royal Mail First Class Post.

> or am i just really mucky and have missed something about sleeping in a bag? The face generally has a significant amount of sebaceous glands that secrete oil. This oil wipes off onto the sleeping bag, making it rather mucky and smelly. A liner that can be removed and washed easily protects the sleeping bag, which is difficult to clean. The density of sebaceous glands on the rest of the body is lower, and it's also often covered with clothing (if you're being efficient with your sleeping system...).

Jake, the links work for me if I click on the chain link icon in the icon strip just above the box for typing in your message. The Aztec one looks pretty good, though I think I'm too much of a scaredy cat to choose that over say Rab at almost the same price. Will, thanks for the link to the Rab liners in Rock & Run. That looks like a very good deal, though these ones don't include a hood which rules it out for me. Parky, Thanks for the silk balaclava to be used instead e.g. with a liner without a hood. Nice idea especially as it could be used for other uses too, though I personally think I would prefer a hood. If anyone can find a Rab mummy with hood at a good price, I'd probably choose that over the JagBags, otherwise I should choose JagBags. Thanks

I've heard of plenty of people on UKC who are happy with Jagbags. I've also heard that Rab bags are (or were) actually made by Jagbags (in that they had Jagbags labels on them)... I have a couple of Lidl mummy silk liners that were £10 each. They're okay, but I don't think they're as strong as others, and of course they were 'specials', so you'll have no idea when they'll be available again.

i was going to suggest patra's silk long johns and top too but that pushes the price up quite a bit but, as my logic goes, gives better value on the price/use calculation. i prefer them as i can't get tangled up. and you can do a much better max wall impersonation than in a bag.
