Ah thanks, aren't the Pro-Trek watches very good then?

Not had any massive problems with mine Kara.

Got mine in a clearance sale, it was ex display stock and only cost me £65 or so. But didnt have a manual. The one I downloaded for it implied it had a 6000m altimeter on it - but as I found out in the Alps this summer, it only goes up to 4000m. Not a massive problem most of the time - and not really a fault.

One night it stopped working altogether tho - which was a bit of a pain. But I smacked it on my head a few times and its worked fine since then (the watch - not my head).

I laughed too Kara, My Suunto Observer was happy over 4000m while Si's Casio jobbie showed a line of dashes!

He was definitely miffed...

I was happy that I'd managed to get above 4000m tho. Without puking up.

Would have been nice if the altimeter had showed the actual height, but I knew it was more than 4000, what do you want? Accuracy?

Anyway, dragging this thread back on track - the Casio needs the batteries replace professionally to keep it waterproof - but the Suunot's have a little kit that allows you to DIY easily (so I've been told). So thats a plus for the Suunto in my book.

Which isnt a very long book, but thats another story.

Mmm, i've tried on a few of the Casio watches and they seem pretty big, are the Suunto watches likewise?

Think they're actually bigger - but depends on the model I think.

Not sure I'd want to wear one every day.

The more expensive (metal bodied) Suunto watches aren't too bad. The plastic ones are bloody huge. On small wrists it looks like you are weariing a wall clock.

id rate the vector althougth it is big and yellow, have always found compass accurate and as long as you update it at known heights during an asent the altimeter and log book function is supurb, cant coment on casio. b o l

As another alternative, check out the Suunto Escape 203.
