As you've probably guessed i need new boots since i wore out the sole on my hi-tec V-lites and snapped off a lacing cleat (stupid tacky plastic thing) so they're definitely not worth getting re-soled. I had initialy spotted the berghaus explorer ridge which i can try and then buy for £90 from cotswold (using 10% discount) However today on field and trek i spotted the new(er) Salomon quest 4D GTX for £80 (and £120 confusingly but i know which price i'd take =]) the only problem is i can't try before i buy (but i know i can return) however local cotswold sell Salomon explorer GTX and mega trek 6 leather GTX (also elio mid gtx but that has a lower ankle cut). The big question is will the fit be roughly the same on these boots as the quest 4D GTX (the explorer looks most similar) so i can try and either get a price match and source through cotswold or go home and buy from field and trek.
I suppose i should also ask whether the quests would be preferable to the berghaus ridge. (personal thing but input appreciated)
HI, Salomon use 3 lasts last time i spoke to them a while back though. They have very little between them, you should know if salomons fit, they are my weapon of choice, had the cosmic 4d as replacement for my X-adv7 and they are great and use the last with the laregr toe box.
pretty much i can wear any salomon as is, just don't be afraid of playing with the volume. My v lites slipped a bit at the heel, i got them on special. I ripped out the footbed and put in a pair out of my salomons, alot thinner and they fit perfectly. On eth salomon cosmics on the left foot the toe box is a bit baggy so i have some volume reducing rubbder under the footbed at front only.
I like salomons and the ease of being able to buy any 9.5uk and knowing they fit priceless!
