I've managed to rip the inner tent of my Laser Comp... It looks live I've packed it carelessly and pushed one of the poles through the fabric, does anybody know a good tent repair service, that aren't going to charge me an arm and a leg for fixing it?
I'm tempted to have a crack at fixing it myself since the rip is only 5cm in length, however I'm not exactly brilliant at sewing...
A blogger and poster on here had an Akto modified and said that it was indistinguishable from the factory-made workmanship. High praise indeed, given the quality of Hilleberg's manufacturing.
LSR does have a good rep. I think Trail mag had an article on repair companies or custome made companies earlier this year (or was it TGO). I could dig it out as I am sure it said one company was who TN send their returns and repairs to. A lot of tent manufacturers used to have their own repair sections but now in the days of outsourcing manufacturer away from the UK they have lost a lot of this expertise so outsource often to companies made up of former ermployees. Of course TN still make tents in THIS country. The high end expedition / greater ranges / polar use tents. They could repair it for you.
Although personally it might look an easy repair for your to do yourself my feelings are a professional would make it better. As far as inners not being load bearing in a lot of tents they do take the forces applied to the tent by mother nature. Are TN Lasers inner or outer pitch first? If outer then the inner is not that loadbearing but if inner pitch first then it takes most of the strain. I think it is outer pitch first with the pole goindg through the fly in a sleeve. Of course it does get clipped to the inside of the tent to the poles and does contribute to the whole strength of the tent.
Try LSR or some other such company first, afterall if it is only say £30 it might be worth it. I have heard that some of these repair companies not just stitch up tears but also re-proof as part of a complete package. I have heard posts on this site or elsewhere about ppl sendin their coats back to Paramo for re-proofing and getting it back cleaned, re-proofed and a note saying they'd sorted out a tear and generally spruced it all up.
