The spring equinox has passed, the daffs are starting to come out at last, and it's even getting a tad warmer. But from where we live on the outskirts of Stockport, you can still see patches of lying snow on Kinder. In fact, since the snow started before Christmas, it's never completely thawed away.
I've lived hereabouts for 26 years, but until this year I don't ever remember a winter when there was always snow on Kinder. This is normal in the Lake District and Scotland of couse, but not at a mere 2,000 feet in Derbyshire.
I read somewhere that we're due for a scorcher this summer..............
Yeah, I was just saying on Bennachie the other night that there were still a few patches of snow in the Brecon Beacons, from just before New Year. Amazing that it's lasted so long - but those swathes of daffs in Cardiff city centre bring a smile too
Was flippin' busy at Fairholmes too. Nearest I got to Lost Lad was Bamford House before heading on up to Slippery Stones, nearly a Dark Peak mini-meet...
The snow's is all but gone after a brilliant winter, tiny patches are left on Dewent Edge, Howden Edge, Outer Edge etc....
This winter has seen so much snow and the cold weather has made it sometimes possibile too actually walk in and enjoy the upper area's of the Dark Peak.
Unfornuntely it's back to it's normal boggy self, although even more boggy due to the snow melt. Completed a huge walk yesterday in the area and ended up waist deep in a smelly bog which then set like concrete and was a real struggle to get out.
Although i am local to the Peak and my foot has covered the whole park, it's an area which i just don't rate that much for walking.
still a lot of snow on Cross fell on 13th, in fact about 3ft deep around the wind shelter, and a lot of snow plodding back down to the 2000ft mark! still some there on 20th when seen from Alston. Also snow on carpark in Nenthead on 17th!
