Right, my fleabay items are both on the go so I can start looking for a synthetic insulation jacket to replace my Montane Verso. I'm looking more or less for a direct replacement, but hope that it would be lighter / warmer for the same weight given there's been 4 years of product development since I bought it.

It needs to be women's fit, or a real unisex, and not in a girly colour. Any suggestions? Or should I wait for the women's Montane Prism?

I think the Verso had more insulation than the Prism, so the Flux is probably a closer replacement (scroll down for the wummins).
I love the Flux by the way, the current version is noticably warmer than the original.

Rab Photon Hoody

Warmer than the prism, I take it all year round (well the last couple of summers!) - the new one is unisex and has ironed out the hood/cuffdesign irritations, but there is this womens sale one in size 10(was looking for one for OH but not her size)

I still love the Rab Generator as my synthetic jacket. Think they do one with a hood too now. Must admit though it has a few rips in it now. TBW had a lovely Haglofs thing the other week that felt nice?

Hood's not necessary - I have a Haglofs Barrier Q Hoody as a heavier-weight insulated jacket.

How do you feel about a smock?

No probs, I love my VAL and Aspira smocks, got an Oz Q as my summer waterproof, so smocks are fine - and lighter too

Then, the world is yours.
The current one I've got on test from TNF is awfy nice, but everyone is doing them this year.
Oddly, they're not really cheaper than jackets though.

The TNF Zephyrus? Is it on the market yet though? Ain't on their website? And will there be a wummin's?

Aye, it's out, mine's a production version. Wummins Zephyrus.

It's not as sexy as the Haglofs Barrier version, but it's dead and the replacement is awfy heavy.

Quelle surprise - more stores stock the men's version than the women's, and as far as I can see, the stores that offer BMC discount only stock the men's. So I've fired off a couple of emails asking if they can obtain the women's for me, and we'll see what replies come back.

I bought a Berghaus Ignite, a lightweight primaloft  jacket, stuffs up nicely in the inside pocket. I have it in stealth black, my size large weighs 343g. the lack of hood is a bonus as I always have a hat in the outdoors and it means I can wear it under my leather jacket on my motorbike more easily

I'm not sure how warm the other jackets you refer to are but patagonia do a wimmin's version of the nano puff, also in black clicky

A bit pricey but I love the men's version. I haven't had a full season out of it yet but it seems to offer great versatility as a lightweight summer belay that can go over everything, or as a mid layer.

It looks quite smart too, if that counts for anything.

Thanks, benp and Lucky Jim. I looked at the nano puff when I was browsing, but was a bit put off my the diamond pattern the stitching creates - it's way too like the drab anoraks I wore as a kid in the 70s. Sorry.

Seems to be the new fashion statement! There are loads of people wearing stuff with diamond stitching down in Brighton.....

Yep, London too. I like the squares of the men's, but the diamonds do look a bit 'anoraky'.

I have the berghus chullu, lovely jacket packs down small into it's own pocket and you can get it for decent price now. Gaynors have the super attractive gold one for £70 Must say after trying numerous other including RAB I found it hard to beat.
