Just lost my forum password and everything, so had to start again . I was a Matt till 10 minutes ago!!
Messing about building some stoves (as a beginner) and using some of the Zen site designes. The few stoves that require sealant they normaly say JB weld, is there anything else suitable (normal chemical metal, araldite?) that is easier available from a local hardware store? Not sure how "heat resistant" it has to be.
JB weld is available in this country - I know 2 local stores which sell it.
However, if you look at Captain Paranoias instructions which show the glue-free method for getting cans to stay together, you can save yerself £7 and a load of gluey faff!
not being a meths fan, but interested in MYOG, it has struck me that an alternative to JB weld etc would be car exhaust assembly paste (not the gum as it would be too thick, the paste in a tube).
If it will take exhaust heat...and stick an exhaust together....but I wonder about fumes given off on heating
I've used the red gasket sealant as well without any problems, it certainly works fine with Penny Stoves (well, most of the time). Saying that, in most stove designs that I've tried, it's rarely been necessary.
Gasket sealant, of course, an obvious choice and easy to find. But now I feel a quest coming on and I have to find JB Weld in a shop somewhere in mid-Wales .
