Congratulations to Cambridge on winning the Boat Race! I thought it was tremendous of the BBC to show non-stop coverage of this spiffing event. In these dark days of mass unemployment and economic gloom, it's good to know that the really important things will always be there.

Do I detect just a hint of sarcasm there Mike! Have to say I agree with you completely. I know you'll not be a cricket lover but I cannot believe we don't get the Ashes on free to view TV but we get the bloody Boat Race!

Sarcasm At? I always like to see my alma mater doing well.

Thought you went to the University of Life Mike!

.jpg) I started watching it by chance, until I heard words to the effect of 'live coverage starts in 40 minutes' The FA cup final doesn't get that much 'pre game analysis'. It reminded me why I don't watch the box very often.

Its was good to see a competition unsullied by money. In other words where losing hurts rather than "I don't care I'm rich now"

I know you mean this in jest, Mike, but I for one love the Boat Race. OK - I'm a rower with vested interest. But how often does TV sport celebrate sheer determination, training, strength, fitness and skill of unpaid sportsmen who devote 40hrs per week over 6 months of their own time to compete in this challenge. What bothers me more is that there's little or no coverage of the women's Boat Race & light-weight category events. Afterall, the SUL fanatics gotta love it when a crew can go nearly as fast with 20kg per man less on board ;)!!! I'm glad to see a celebration of excellence when the majority of TV seems to be about celebrity or mediocrity or both!

you don't get the ashes because too many people don't pay their licence fee. you get ashes to ashes instead.
I always suspected Mike loved a good row.
Whereas I always suspected he preferred to stroke his cox!!
Better than being a coxless pair.

Here's a fair swap then We'll keep the Oxford - Cambridge boat race off the TV in Scotland if you'll keep Susan Boyles boat race off the TV in England. Put that in ya roll-up ya miserable jock git

haha mike! Can't believe I didn't spot this thread before - Well done Cambridge indeed, I have a vested interest in it I suppose, but at least the bbc make the effort to cover events that aren't just football, now if only they would show more rugby union, climbing and kayaking...

haha mike! Can't believe I didn't spot this thread before - Well done Cambridge indeed, I have a vested interest in it I suppose... I was surprised you didn't come to this thread earlier. I couldn't see anyone calling himself Cantab giving up the chance to big up his varsity coxed eight.
