I am considering buying a paclite jacket for the warmer part of the year. My NF mountain jacket is just too bulky and warm when it starts to get to the warmer part of the year! Any suggestions/recommendations?

When I've save up my pocket money I'm buying the Berghaus Extrem Paclite.

Since buying my Berghaus Paclite Smock last summer I have enjoyed a real sensation of dryness when it rains in the mountains.

It is pretty light and packs down to a clenched fist. It hasn't failed to keep me dry yet and is slightly tougher than it feels. The hood is pretty useful as well, can be made to go tight on your head to move with your actions.

There are a few reviews of it on the website.

It has impressed me anyway.

Mark, by a spooky coincidence I've just gone through exactly the same thing with my TNF jacket and trousers - both are over the top for summer, although I've put up with them for a few years. I've just bought the ME Firefly and I'm impressed even though I've not used it in anger yet. It's a bit longer than it seems in the pictures, which I like, and the hood is a revelation compared to the floppy TNF efforts. Needless to say, it's damned light in comparison. I also bought the Berghaus Paclite trousers and they're about as light as you can probably get. Full length zips would have been a bit better, but they seem just what I was looking for. For occasional summer use, I reckon paclite will be just ideal, although I wouldn't like to catch it against anything.

I picked up a Berghaus Paclite smock at the Outdoors Show for £80.....but you don't really want to know that, do you! I still reckon it's well worth the £120 rrp and would have bought one anyway.

I'm personally gonna get me a ME Firefly. They are superlight, plus full on mountain worthy.

I gotta rate the Berghaus Paclite Pro Jacket, for me a far better fit overall than the ME Firefly and its cheaper.

The new Alpine Pro version of the Berghaus paclite looks even better. It has reinforced panels on the shoulders, think its out in the summer.

The Berghaus Smock for me. The ME jacket just seemed to bunch up and produced an unnatractive bulge just above where the rucksack belt would be.

Purely cosmetic reasons - ok Vanity. I'll admit it, but a good reason for me none-the less.

Jackets, jackets, jackets - which only just come down to your waist. What's happened to the good old cagoules. Is it a good old marketing ploy to make you buy overtrousers?!

I like the shorter cut jackets. Many years ago I used to have a huge cagoule/poncho thingy (that was of course orange). I used to wear it on my bike, on my way to school.

I hated it.

Berghaus Extreme Paclite for me too, it's so difficult to fault it. Ventilation pockets, breathable, light as feather and very waterproof.

IMHO it's worth paying more for the jacket version, especially as the hood folds away neatly, which is a big boon for using it cycling as otherwise it just catches the wind.

Ive got the Berghaus aswell and Im very happy with it. Rathbones in Keswik have them at least £20 below retail at all times, sometimes cheaper in the sales.

I got the mens version as its a little longer than the womens.

I am not the only one who walks in shorts and bare legs on wet warm summer days so why doesent someone make a jacket for us that comes to the bottom of our shorts. Paclite is the ideal stuff to use.

i'd have to vote for the ME firefly, having used it year round in every condition it's a full spec mountain jacket with all the advantages of the berghaus jackets but with all the technical 'whistles and bells'. on a generic note paclite seems to be fairly robust. i've used mine scrambling and in heavy snow with no problems.
