Hi,

I'm going to check out a pair of Leki corklites and a pair of black diamonds tomorrow in shop. They've offered me a great price (I always like to offer local retailers the chance to twist my arm as I'd rather give my cash to them than a faceless online retailer).

All the videos I've seen so far on correct useage of poles are shocking TO SAY THE LEAST, Can anyone provide links to PROPER use of poles videos please? The pacerpoles vids seem the best but I'm assuming the technique for decent isnt the same for traditional handled poles?

Cheers

Phil.

Phil, man, just load up your sac and go walking. It will just happen. Be prepared to adjust length and just go with the flow. It will be fine dude.

Never let the poles point forward, unless you want to slow down, and you'll be alright.

Have a look at this. By the way, Pete is a regular contributor to the OM forum.

I'm assuming you have the straps on properly?

When I'm descending moderate to steep slopes, I have both poles pointing forward, holding the upper part of the handle between finger and thumb.  If I need to use the pole to take weight, I just let go and take the weight onto the straps.  I rarely grip the handles with all my fingers  curled around at any time other than steep ascents -  I think that places unnecessary strain on the wrists as they are bent.

EG If you tripped and forward whilst holding full fingered onto the handles , you are likely to jar your bent wrist and lose control of the poles.  If you hold the way I'm trying to describe, you will take your weight on the straps with your hands spread out- the poles will extend forward stopping you falling further (unless the the tip slips - then you're fecked!)  It's the same method really as the pacer poles  - but the straps are where the PP handle is I guess
