Morning All,

Need a new daysack cos the old one is wearing out but there are so many to choose from. I'm moer concerned about volume than make though.

I currently have a 20 litre Vango airflow style sack but it has always required careful packing to get in everything I need. Now we've got a dog I will need to carry extra supplies so it will definately need to be bigger. My winter/overnight sac is a 55 litre Mapcpac but that is obviously too much for most of the year.

What size sack do people use for general hillwalking with a bit of scrambling and climbing thrown in?

I find 35 litres is about the right size. You can get everything into it in good weather without lots of bits and pieces stuffed under the lid. There is less of a problem in bad weather since you are wearing much of the kit! Mine is a Berghaus Dart 35 that is eight years old and still doing fine.

you could try the Berghaus Free-flow designs such as the 30+6 or 35+8. The back means no more sweaty tops on hot days.

People say good things about the Lowe Alpine Walkabout. A 35 litre version can be had for 35 squid at CCC Outdoors.

I've got a Walkabout 35 (albeit an older version) and it's superb. Very comfortable, good design.

unfortunately the berghaus design doesn't fit me, nor osprey's nor karrimors. Must be an odd shape. I also don't like side pockets for some reason, (picky aren't I?) which rules out a fair few more.

Might try the new 30l Macpac but I'm not sure what the back system is. I run quite hot when I'm active dso really do need the airflow stylee.
