any body know of any good guide books for some long distance treks in northern norway in the arctic circle, done a few of the big ones in the alps mont blance/monte rosa etc just fancy something further afield for a change
The Troms border trail is great. The best guidebook is the online planner at DNT this gives you access to the locations of huts and waymarked routes on Google maps.
The huts in North Norway have no food and are not very big. Commercial groups use them in summer and can fill them beyond bursting. So, apart from the price, it is a good idea to take a tent.
Prices in Norway are high, but not that ridiculous if you shop sensibly in local supermarkets. There's always a good selection of dehydrated food available, but you might have to make it up youself and not expect pre-packed mountain rations. They are ridiculously expensive, even in the UK. I wouldn't dream of carrying 10 kg of food to Norway. Apart from anything else, you might well have to pay excess on airfares.
If you do go there, think about visiting the Reisadalen gorge. A fabulous place of huge waterfalss and rich vegetation high up in the Arctic.
There is also Sweden north of the Arctic Circle. Here you have a lot to choose from, both areas with huts and established trails, as well as areas where you are pretty much on your own (e.g. Sarek).
There's also this one by Dyer and Robertson (not sure about the hyperlink) - I have this and the Connie Roos one - both good. Have had two 3 1/2 week trips up there - and the link above mentions my last one.
