I notice Rab have changed from euro. 700 fill power- to 800 US fill power. is it because it sounds more impressive or?

have all other companies changed also?  what about ME, PHD? and who are american companies these days? and who are "international" ?

have we got a level playing field yet?  is that what its all about?  or ? etc.

is ME the only ones using the "old" system?

Well, RAB have moved into America on a reasonably sized basis so presumably switched over the US fill power in consequence. Most folk won't check or know so it could well have been hurting them a little.

A lot of people do tend to say which measurement they're using. If not best to assume US really. PHD/ME European but then they're European companies.

Its maybe all still slightly questionable - some amusing stuff you see mentioned about people doing stuff like carefully steam treating the down before testing etc. But much better than nothing

RAB is/was the only UK brand than I saw in any quantity in the US. Has a really great reputation with those that know about it.... mainly Yanks that have been to Europe to climb etc and are feeling nostalgic. Price-wise they pay a notable premium for it from what I could see.

A bit off topic but Rab kit is still far cheaper in the US than it is in the UK though, I must presume they pay less duty/taxes in the US and bigger markets and all that type of stuff.

Does it cost more to ship from China to the US or China to the UK?

The cost difference is negligible. Transporting cargo via sea is incredibly cheap.

Thats what I thought, must be down to the customs duties and market forces.

I am not sure about in shops but online there is a big difference in the prices of Rab kit between the US and UK.

Stephen generally speaking I'd totally agree.... I remember seeing Barbour jackets in New York in the mid 90's for a price that made me think they were fake. They weren't! and it was all being done via the official importer. We in the UK are more than happy to pay LOTS more!

Market forces..... its how Black Diamond sell the Apollo lantern for $49.99 or £55!

Have you got a link for a decent Rab online dealer in the US?

those prices look pretty much spot on the uk prices once you've converted and added vat to the dollar price.

If you search around, you can find Rab stuff really cheap in the US. Folk on BPL are regularly posting good deals.
