Before you say anything, I know my demands are wide-ranging and encopass pretty much everything! But if you don't ask you don't get!

Two man tent, with large porch area to accomodate two dogs for their bed-times, so the porch needs to be closed and secure otherwise dogs won't be there in the morning.

Bullet-proof construction, take any kind of whether, needs to light as possible against trade-off of offering the criteria already mentioned.

Last but not least, as cost effective as possible but ultimately if I've got to pay, I've got to pay.

Come on guys, I'm new to tents so I need some real positive guidance on this one.

Have a look at the Terra Nova Quasar. Not the lightest, but should match everything else though.

Quasar has two porches too, so dogs can sleep in one if you need to nip out t'other at midnight. No ear splitting yelps as you tread on a dog.

Force 10 Serac 1:2 looks good for you, massive porch tunnel tent, bit pricey, but huge if you ask me, don't own one, but it's only a matter of time!!!!

Hopefully here!!!!!

Did it work who can tell??

2 dogs in the porch of a quasar? Are they Yorkshire Terriers?

If you are looking for a large porch, I would have thought that a tunnel with an extra vestibule pole would be ideal (e.g. Lightwave T1 trek XT or one of the Hillebergs)

Is that the second time today Richard?

...or a Force 10 Serac!

lol, sorry, what can I say mate?? But at least my link worked!! Looks like a beast of tent to me anyway. ;)

Might be worth trawling some cycle touring shops - I've seen some there that'll let you get a couple of bikes in the porch.

Heather and I regularly take our two dogs with us (Border Collies)(see Wasdale Meet etc). We use a T2 Arctic from lightwave. There's enough room in the porch for the dogs, their panniers and harnesses, their roll out beds and still enough room for us to cook in. being a Lightwave tent it's reasonably light and is a good 4 season tent. At times we've left the dogs at home with the kids and gone cycle touring - and yes there's enough room for 2 bikes in the porch.

You may want to have a look at the Macpac Citadel; spacious tent, 2 vestibules one of them palatial. The pooches will appreciate it. Weight is not too bad at 3.5kg.

Just another option to consider.

Hilleberg Nallo GT if you're feeling wealthy - huge porch, light weight, top kwoll - possibly the Vango equivalent if you're on a tighter budget, Macpac Citadel looks good as well, Force Ten Serac 1:2 or the 2:3 if you want a bigger version, maybe Wild Country Levache, but it's a bit heavy.

Depends on whether you're going to use it for backpacking really.

If a large porch is what you want and a rock steady tent try the Vango Equinox I have one I got 2nd hand and it is brilliant!!

At times we've left the dogs at home with the kids and gone cycle touring

Is this some kind of survival experiment?
Show/hide user stats
I will pile in with a Vango recommendation too! Equinox or Spirit both fit the bill.
Show/hide user stats
The Equinox is a good tent but does it fit the 'light as possible' bill.
Show/hide user stats
Perhaps not, but the Spirit will.

Looked at the specs of all suggestions made and it comes down to a choice of two, based on a realistic cost.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Terra Nova Quasar but my missus would effing kill me, if she found out how much.

Force Ten Serac 1:2 which I can get for £239.99 or the Vango TBS Spirit 200 for £199.99.

I cannot find any reviews on here for either, so are there any experiences of either product from anybody before I make my final choice?

I've got the spirit 300 (keep an eye on ebay or gearzone etc. for good deals - we got one for £240). I thought the 200 was a bit too small as we were after the same spec. as you. The 300 gives 2 people loads of room, is light, packs up small and very stable. The Quasar doesn't offer as much room anyway so I think you're alright there. Not used the Serac though so can't comment on that one really.

Terra Nova Quasar ETC has a larger front porch and still retains the second porch at the back.

This is my prefered choice for winter at the moment !

When I turn in I clip the dogs lead to my backpack before I put the pack in it's dry bag, if it can pull that then it is pretty intent on getting away, also lets it go outside (to the length of the lead) if it needs to without having to knock and ask !

Good point, te spirit only has one entrance but the porch on these type of tunnel tents (spirit/equinox/nalloGT/lavache/chattanooga etc)is bigger than the bombproof geodesic types like the Quasar.
Basically, you sacrifice a bit of stability for added space and/or reduced weight.
