I borrowed a rucksack, (lowe alpine i think) from a friend in 1999-2000, it was fantastic, small light compact, i think it was about 45-60 Litres. it was mostly orange with a green front flap. It had one single compartment inside and side pockets and adjustable straps on the out side, and it also had a pocket on the top....does anyone recognise this description or can anyone recommend an equivalent. One of the fantastic things about this pack was that it felt really comfortble and not to heavy for me, I'm 5'3 and 8stone..........

Hi there,

I don't know which one it was, but if you contact Lowe Alpine on info@lowealpine.co.uk they may be able to ID it for you.

As for current models, most depends on what is comfortable for you. Lowe do a lot of sacks, but I've read a lot of good things about the Walkabout range (which goes up to 45 litres). See www.lowealpine.com.

There are lots of good rucksacks around these days. I've also read many great things about Osprey, in particular, and I'm soon going to be saving for an Osprey Luna.

The best thing to do is to try on as many as possible, if you can find some shops that stock a good range.

Good luck!

Chances are that the original pack you tried will have been superceded by now. You should definitely be looking for a women's specific pack btw, it'll have a shorter back length and narrower shoulder strap mountings to suit the female physique - if you can wait until January, Lowe is updating their women's pack range completely, though their current women's specific packs - all with an 'ND' suffix, stands for Nanda Devi - are also good.

Also check out the women's specific packs from the likes of Osprey, Macpac and Berghaus. Get the shop staff to stick some heavy-ish stuff - ropes are good - in the pack when you try it on so you get a realistic idea of how it'll feel when loaded up.

Think it sounds like the Lowe Alpine Contour Mountain 45L. Was it a zip access? I have one in pristine condition (unused cos it was a gift so I kept it good!!) It cost about £95 new. May sell if you are interested.Don't know if they make them anymore but you can check anyway. Cheers.

I have a lowealpine sack 45 liters and i find it very comfy even with alot of weight in. If you live near castleford lots of cheap Lowe alpine sacks at freeport, and I mean cheap.

They also have cheap Cragghoppers packs there.

Colours might be a bit dubious. But things are cheap

thanks for the advice, i did email Lowe and they thought it was a contour 45, looked on the site, and it's not exactly the same but looks similar, so as i dont live near freeport, might be interested in yours Derek, it didnt have zip access if i remember rightly, let me know how much you want for it.

Sophie, I have no idea hoe much to ask for the rucksack. As i said it is unused.I could try and send a foto if i can work out the digital camera or if you are in scotland, have alook at it before you buy.Possibly in the region of £50-£60???? I dunno!!!!!!!!!
