I'm looking for a good midlayer fleece for scottish winter walking. Thing is my waterproof shell (a rab latok alpine jacket)is a bit of a tight fit any suggestions?

hoping not to have to spend too much either as am on a budget what with the festive/party/me getting drunk and falling down season in full swing.

Personally? £8 in Matalan! Unless you are after a windproof fleece, or one with any specific properties, you'll most likely end up paying for a brand name since most fleeces are much of a muchness.

In winter I wear a polartec baselayer (since techie baslayers DO make a difference), a Matalan fleece, and a Rab Latok waterproof. Perfectly fine!

Personally I use a karrimor Alpiniste fleece. These are a little hard to come by now though. The fleece is extremely breathable and I like the hood, which underneath a shell hood is perfect for keeping out the harshest of Scottish weather. Buy a fleece with a chest pocket that can accomodate a map too.

Arc'Teryx cut is great if you're rich, if you want a close-fitting microfleece warmth top, check Lowe Alpine's Warmzone Ninja Hoody or some sort of Powerfleece top.

The original Karrimor Alpinsiste fleece, btw, was nice and snug, then they revised it and mad it into a saggy bag about three years back.

Hard to be exact anyway since it depends a lot on your build and proportions.

with millets fleeces I got in there sale at £4.45 each(bought 4) and A good shell.I have
A berghaus fleece I sometimes use aswell,but personally prefer my cheapies....I suppose I could of bought 13 or 14 for the price of the berghaus!Dont be A slave to the add-men!

Closest-fitting will be PowerStretch or own brand equivalent. Unfortunately, these will not be cheap...

Try the Lowe Alpine Aleutian micro-gird pull ons. Really warm for the weight. Close fitting and can be used as abase layer as well

As said, Lowe Alpine Aleutian micro-gird is the one. Its £25 from Gearzone at the minute. It can be a nice base layer (it works) or over one and still wicks, I have two and love them both dearly. I have mine slightly baggier than ideal but have no complaints.
