Breezy weekend in Lakes by the sounds of things.
So Which tents provided the best resistance to Friday night's storm, and which '4-season' shelters disappeared first?
I presume that none of you had a Hilleberg ;-)

None survived the hurricane, who are you trying to kid? The pegs sheared right off. Steve W's only survived becasue he packed it away really early.
Have you seen "twister" - where whole cattle got sucked up into the vortex? That was happening in Cumbria.
I swear at times in that bunkhouse I thought it was like The Wizard Of Oz! I kept thinking "I don't think we're in Cumbria anymore!"
Icy - you've changed your name!
Make no mistake, NO tent would have survived the night.
The ground was so waterlogged it was like putting pegs into a sponge. The wind was er... strong - that was not the problem, it changed direction several times and was V gusty.
The amount of tree and building damage was testament to the ferocity of the night, local farmer said it was the worst he had seen in 7 years.

Having been accused of snoring with intent (which is why I normally snore in tent!) I thought it was for the best, Jeanie. I am so relieved I arrived too late to attempt my tent. Mark, I'm sorry my football songs weren't to your taste - I'll try and learn some Sisters numbers by Llangorse!
Trust me, Sam, if you'd been snoring at the weekend we wouldn't have heard you... ;o
Your singing was about as good as mine i reckon..... ;)
This sounds very like the night we spent in Durness during the summer when an Atlantic storm moved in unexpectedly - the campsite looked like a scene from "War and Peace" the next morning, and there wasn't a tent that survived it (or, indeed, some of the campsite's outbuildings).
Did anyone take the shards of red tent pole that were on the bunkhouse windowsill? I thought for the T-shirt we could use them to spell out 'Buttermere 05 - Only The Wet Survived'.
Sorry Sam, I put them in the bin when I was clearing up :(
Maybe we could use one of the photos when the gallery's up. Anyone willing to improve on my slogan suggestion? If there's a pic of a dead tent we could use that with 'Only The Humans Survived' perhaps...

These types of hurricane are fairly common in January, but they normally only catch the far north of Scotland - usually the northern and western isles. It is unusual for such a big 'north atlantic' storm to track so far south...
..which is absolutely no consolation to those were caught up in it!

£100 off all Quasar models at the Outdoor Shop if anyone interested
Try on of the Force ten domes, they look almost indestructable. Some of them in the sale as well.
Sounds like a good weekend though. I was busy getting blown off the road in the Highlands.
Even Force Tens wouldn't have survived the ball of wind at 3am-ish...the barn nearly didn't and the neighbouring house lost its roof.
the met office reported a gust of 128mph on great dun fell (the radar station on the north pennines) on saturday night.
i venture that perhaps even my much vaunted quasar might not have remained unscathed...
it would be very interesting to see a breakdown of which tents failed and why (poles breaking, fabric tearing etc..) and in what order.
glad to see everyone ok though.

a Super Quaser bit the dust. The flysheet is still there if you want it...
