I`ve got a pair of Meindl Nepal boots that quite happily take my old strap ons and I feel comfortable up to Grade II gullies etc. and I will wear tehm if expecting such conditions. BUT I also favour lighter footwear ie Salomon
PRO 6 , especially if MTBing into an area in the Highlands.
Knowing the routes that I will undertake in such footwear are going to be on rounded hills with no craggy / steep approaches (eg Ben na Lap is planned ) but am aware of teh potential for nice hard snow / ice sheets on teh summits what flexier crampons / instep crampons could be used for such conditions? Years ago I recall using my old strap ons with KSB3s quite successfully in the Grampians as a last resort!
