Where can I can a spare O-ring to go in the bottom of my Sigg FireJet stove? I think a normal rubber O ring would probably melt in use, thus is not an option.
Thanks
Tom

Tried contacting Sigg directly to see if you can blag one buckshee?

Sigg are distributed in the UK by Burton McCall. When I had a problem with the seal, I wrote and asked for a replacement, and they sent me a complete new stove... and they had only just taken over the distribution, so weren't really liable.

I emailed Burton McCall on friday... as yet no response, but thanks anyways, maybe they will reply?

Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply if you email Sigg directly......I've been waiting 3 weeks for a reply about a leaky Sigg bottle.

Funny, I emailed them once, late on a Friday evening, with a query re: pressure testing (following a loooonnnnnggg thread on UKC featuring a paranoid, obsessive American), and received a reply first thing on the following Monday morning.

Maybe they only reply to people they can help? I will wait another day, and then e-mail them again I think.

Hmm I got Taunton Leisure to call Burton McCall on my behalf, who told me that 'no one will carry spares, but I can improvise, or purchase a new stove'.. great! Oh well... might try RS components for an O ring. Cheers for the suggestions guys.

That's a bloody crap response. The reason you need to buy a new o-ring (which will cost pence) is because of the problem of flaring and carburation with the stove. Or at least that's why I needed a new one; the thing flared, and pissed fuel everywhere, burning the o-ring to fine silica dust.
Try getting in touch with Sigg directly, telling them what poor customer service this is.

Thanks, will give it a try, but I guess they don't make it any more, and thus don't care. Oh well, I bet MSR aren't this crap. The annoying thing is I was told they haven't made it for 5 years, but we sold them when I worked for Outdoors, not very long ago, so this is blatantly cr*p. Nevermind, it was nice of Taunton Leisure to try for me I suppose, and not their fault. Will try to Sigg direct route.

Hmmm...I'm sure I've seen them more recently than that... I didn't know they'd been discontinued. Can't say I'm surprised, as it was full afterburner or off...

I've been trying for about 4 years to find these spares. I bought a firejet just over 4 years ago I think and it was a re-conditioned one. This was just after Sigg had discontinued all intrested in stoves so it think the 5 years you were quoted is about right. The local independent outdoor shop (and now sadly shut down) had some how got hold of lots of spares and second hand firejets and was selling them off presumably in the knowledge that the spares were about to dry up.
As far as I can tell the spares you need to find are the leather cup washer from the piston, a couple of o rings for the on/off valve (as Capt. says its not a simmer type stove), the pressure release valve with spring and ball, and the flat washer underneath where the jet can be removed for cleaning.
As far as the o rings, spring and ball go I bought a MSR spares kit which fitted for these parts (an expensive solution but I'm thinking long term keeping the stove going)
The leather cup washer needs TLC, a soak in oil once in a while and reshaping by hand. The petrol strips the oil out of the leather and slowly makes it brittle. If it disintegrates complete I think that is the end of the stove unless someone out there has any bright ideas.
The flat washer is a problem I'm trying to solve currently. The problem as you say is finding a material that will both stand the heat and remain supple when soaked in petrol. My Dad, bless him, (recently retired) has been conducting trials on plumbing washers, inner tube and space hopper amongst other things eventualy one of the plumbing washers (but not all) stood the rigours and seals ok.
If any one can add to this or knows some shop that has a pile of spares out the back I'd be very interested.
Cheers, Jon

Hmm... interesting. Great (not). Will try the MSR route then! If you find a solution, then I would be glad to hear of it.
Cheers

As a temporary fix when my washer crumbled to silica, I used a piece of Gore-shield PTFE EMC gasket, on the grounds that PTFE withsthands heat. It seemed to work, but is a one-time fix; like a cylinder head gasket, it needs replacing every time you open the jet access cover.
Granted, this is pretty esoteric stuff, and not generally available at your local hardware store...
Never tried silicone sealant, but I recall that there are thermally resistant grades of this available.

Cheers Cap'n.. Just got an e-mail...
'We are the Sigg distributors in New Zealand and are the last distributor in the world to have any parts left for the Firejet... I know the o-ring that you mean, but unfortunately we don't have any of those left, as they were one of the more popular spare parts.'
So great.. there actually aren't any left in the world! Will try improvising, I feel a raid on Engineering Stores coming on!

Found this
More 'discontinued' news, the Sigg 'Firejet' stove was discontinued by Sigg in 2000 and most spares have finally dried up. The only parts currently in stock are the pump leather @£1.99, pump to hose '0' ring @£1.80 & Silicone Jet cleaner seal at £1.50. We are trying to source or re-manufacture small parts but in the near future the situation is bleak for 'Firejet' owners, thanks for your support Sigg...!

Don't all rush off there for spares - leave me some!
Cheers Wayne
