my down bag is in need of a top up or refill.
i have seen an advert in the outdoor press for just such a service. but i cann't find it now.
the advert is yellow'ish and usually runs up the edge of the page. very plain and to the point. says something like 'refill old sleeping bags using high quality down etc etc'
can anybody point me in the right direction?

Is it Mountaineering Designs, perchance?

kev
thank you. just what i was looking for, i'll contact them in the morning.

i'm wondering about turn round time etc. have you used the service, or products, yourself?

and do they do jackets too? Mine is looking a bit flat!

you shouldnt refil a down product unless some down has fallen out... if the down no longer lofts like it used to, just clean it thoughrougly and dry it in a commercial tumbledrier with a tennis ball or two to pummel it a bit.

Never used them myself but send them an email outlining your requirements and see what they come back with.

I'm sure I saw jackets mentioned in the ad' Looby.

Personally, I'd rather tackle the Aggy Ridge, in winter, wearing flip flops, than wash anything containing down. There are a number of specialist cleaners about and they're there for a reason :o)

jacket was washed etc about a month ago so down should be pretty 'lofty' Had it for nearly 4 year now and worn it near enough every day in the winter. Never pulled out any massive chunks of down but reckons its getting a bit low now!

Which jacket have you got, Looby? 4 years is about the same length of time as I've had my Rab Guide Glacier and it's still as puffy as a very puffy thing :o)

Did it develop clumps after you washed it or does it just feel like the down's gone awol?

spoke to them this morning. very helpful.

bag will be emptied of down and the shell cleaned. the down is cleaned seperatley (they will do this twice if they think they can revitalise exhausted down). shell is then refilled with cleaned down - cost £35.

if down needs to be replaced it is charged at £20 per 100grms.

looby - jackets are no problem for them, i did ask on your behave. refilling and cleaning anything filled with down is their bussiness.

apart from cleaning other peoples bags they also manufacture their own down bags.
