Just spent the first night in my Hennessy Expedition Asym.
Great nights sleep ,very comfortable and very cold ( and that will be my next question)

Unfortunately it didn't rain so i couldn't test the tarp but i feel it's a little small.
Even if it is sufficient to keep the hammock dry i could use a little more shelter for cooking and for my kit.
Anyone upgraded the tarp on one of these?
I was thinking about using my British Army basha which is a little bit larger and would mean i have a more versatile shelter system if trees are not available to hang the hammock.
I read somewhere that hennessy do a larger tarp ,anyone know the size or price?
Cheers

I too have a Hennessey Hammock - bought new from a guy in the States on ebay at a bargain as it was a promotional gift that he didn't want. I've spent a few nights this winter in the back garden in it and it's kept me warm and dry. I agree the fly doesn't look as though it will keep the hammock dry, but it has worked every time I've used it in the rain. I don't know of anywhere in this country that you can get the overzize Hennessy Hex Fly but you can buy them from Hennessy at http://www.hennessyhammock.com/new-products.htm

I use a foam pad to lie on in the hammock when it's cold as this insulates your back from the cold air onder your compressed sleeping bag. When it's been really cold I've put a foil rescue blanket under the pad with the foil facing into the hammock as this reflects heat and warms up the air trapped in the foam pad. I believe a lot of americans use a car windshield refector cut down to size in the same way.

I'm looking forward to spending a few nights wild camping in the spring/summer/autumn in mine.

Parkbender, do you use a Thermarest?

Thanks for the link Richard - I may upgrade to the bigger fly if I end up getting wet this year! The only problem with the bigger fly is I have heard that they can flap around a lot in windy conditions due to the bigger size. I use a bog standard closed cell foam pad I got from a camping shop for a couple of quid but I'm sure a thermarest will do the job just as well.

Try this American site for loads of info on Hammock camping and staying warm - scroll down to the Hammock Camping section - theres also a whole load of pages devoted to Hammock Camping on the site if you navigate around from the homepage
