i am looking for a sleeping bag for a RTW trip which will go to between -5 to -10 but it also has to be big. I cannot fit into standard or long bags due to my shoulder width. So far the only bag that i have found is the Mountain hardwear Quantum Down Galaxy EX SL which has over 20CM extra width.

Is this a good bag or can anyone recommend a better option?

Thank you in advance.

Buy a snugpak or mountain equipment bag as they sell things you can zip in to extend the shoulder width.

I think snugpak also do a range of big bags that are roomier.

I am having the same prob. I am just over 6'2" tall and i am 17.5 stone -- big. I am really struggling to find anywhere that stocks large sleeping bags so that I can see what I need. Any suggestions?

Andy,

Snow and rock have a sale on Rab bags and needlesports online have a rab expander panel for £30, the only problem is you can't try it on. Let me know if you come up with anything better than this.

I bought a Mountain Equipment Sleepwalker 3 and it doe sthe job well. If you get last seasons one its £40 cheaper in some shops and a better colour.

Thanks for your suggestions. Think I may have the solution. I have just tried a Nanok 'Comfort' -10 (they also do a -20) and it's great. Whilst there may be a compromise on insulation, it has a double zip which allows good ventilation. The down version (with 700 fill) is around £140.

Still to buy it -- so if anyone's had bad experiences of Nanok, let me know asap!
