Having missed a couple of summers with my broken leg, I'm making the most of the next few months by trying to get fit again before my return to the Big E next year.
After what will be a great trip to Skye with a few of you lot, I'm quite keen to do one challenge that I've never tried before and that is the English 3000ers.
Anyone fancy a crack at this either 1st weekend in July or last weekend in June. Similar to the Welsh version but about 10 miles longer. I've done the Welsh version loads of times so I thought it was time to try the English version.
If you didn't know, The start is in Keswick town centre and start with the ascent of Skiddaw. A walk down the length of Derwent Water is followed by following the Corridor route all the way to Scafell (Lords Rake is optional !). Returning over the summits of Scafell Pike, Broad Crag and Ill Crag, the route then descends to Angle Tarn. A gradual ascent over High Raise gives quicker access to Thirlmere and the big path to Helvellyn. Descent over Lower Man and back to Keswick to finish in the square.
Anyone intested ? Its all on foot so no cars involved so there will be no problems with parking at Seathwaite farm with all the charities doing the 3 peaks then.

Whats that in miles, cos im intrested, depending on the dates.

Joe - the usual distance quoted is 45 miles.
I am thinking of doing this trip, but unfortunately not at the end of June/beginning of July, as I'll be away backpacking.
thats a long old day, but ill be up for a crack if the dates are right.

Those weekends were suggestions as I have a lot of other weekends booked up already.
Any other dates people would be interested in. I'll be in the Alps 23rd Jul - 14th Aug.
45 miles sounds about right. Trainers would definately be more comfortable on this one.

I might be interested in this, but my dates are all up in the air at the moment as my Alps trip is still not finalised. The last weekend in June is a definite possibility.

Sounds good, bit more info and you can count me in (depending on dates as i have nasty exams)

 Excellent,
Good to start getting some interest.
Either of those 2 weekends are still best for me.
The plan would be to camp at Braithwaite grabbing those valuable few hours kip before a quick breakfast and heading into Keswick for a 4am start in the Market square below the clock tower.
The route description is quite long and outline in my 1st post but the whole walk is about 45 miles with about 12,000 feet of ascent. Would hope to finish about midnight back at the clocktower in Keswick.
Let me know if you want a full route description.

Would have to sort out some form of support backup to allow restock of food and drink during the route.
Yeah what are the weekends....sorry, and yeah wouldnt mind a full route description if you have one to hand or easily avaliable
Chris

Sounds great, although dates might be a problem as I'm off on the family hols for most of July. However, other than that, I'm up for it.
Looks like the 7th July is a possibility as well.
A full route to follow after the weekend. Will be at the Snowdonia meet this weekend.
I'm Keswick based and unless I'm racing or BG supporting I'd support or join in.
the 7 july sounds good to me, did you know its a thursday
yeah 7th sounds good to me to...exams will be over :-D

 Well spotted Joe !
That will be Saturday 9th July then !
Hope that doesn't change things !

Same day as Wasdale fell race - English & British championship event - so I'll not be able to play. May still be able to support later if the race (21 miles 9000') doesn't finish me off!
'Fraid the 9th is out for me. I'll be on my way down to the Biaritz area with the family (hopefully followed by a few days slightly further south without them).
not planning on running this are you, cos 45 miles is a long old way over hills
