Hi does anybody have any idea what is happening at the above mill or if anybody will be buying as there are a lot of jobs at stake here and its not just down to competition I beleive its down to bad management. Is this true?

See the comments on the recent thread Perseverance mills in administration

It seems that Perseverence Mills is healthy, but its parent company is in trouble.

I don't know what is happening at the moment, I'll contact my dad this weekend to see whats happening. It is rather worrying as he's been working at this company for over 40 years, and making pertex for the last 5 or so years.

Thanks for that info philip. Let me know if you hear anything as it would be such a shame if they were to close as they are making a considerable amount of profit, it just does not make sense!

Right this is direct from my dad who works for Perserverance Mills. Two weeks ago the company which owns them when in to administration. The parent company is 7 million pounds in debt and still losing money, but Perserverance mills who make pertex make 1.2 million pounds profit each year. Because of this, the management are confident that they will find a buyer for this Perserverance mills. They will be informed in two weeks time.

Until then I don't know anymore.

Right, thanks for that. So really the parent company have got perseverance into all this mess which is quite sickning really because that means that if they don't get bought out they will all lose their jobs which is very unfair on the padiham lot. I heard that they had 4-6wks and that was 2wks ago like you said they went into administration but surelly by the end of this wk they should get to know something as this will be there 3rd wk? Has your dad any idea as to who maay be in the pipeline for buying the company?

Yes it is the parent company that have got them in to this mess. The demand for pertex is outstripping their capablility to supply. The factory runs 24/7 producing it and no-one else is even capable of making it. They have tried to outsource pertex to other countries, inparticular the far east, but their machines can't give the ultra fine weave required. No clue as yet to a potential buyer, but all the workers are scheduled to meet and be told by the management so I'm led to believe, in just under to weeks.

to keep people up to date on this situation.

Last week G.Q. Parachutes visited the factory twice and twice at the main place so there is possible interest about purchasing the Perserverance factory

Hi there Philip, thanks for the latest info. So I heard the same about G.Q. and people say they may be good for the company as they owned them years back. Is this right? I've also heard that they may buy them and put them on different shifs maybe 8hrs 6-2 2-10 10-6 and pay less money.Do you know anything about this Philip? Also heard they should be making an anouncement maybe friday of this wk or monday. Lets hope they do get bought and the workers will not be suffering any longer, even if they don't one way or another surely they should get to know something this wk or at the latest begining of next wk as this is now there 4th wk. Fingers crossed now that they have good news coming there way. Catch you later Philip.

Well its final, they haven't managed to find a buyer and the perserverance factory will be closing in 2 to 6 weeks. This was direct from my dad today who will be losing his job despite the factory making profit.

Don't know what this means for the future of pertex.

Grrr shame they can't do a managemet buy-out of the Perseverence Mills section from the parent company - so stupid to close if they are making a profit. Expect Pertex prices to rocket over the next few weeks now!

That is a <expletive deleted> disgrace. What the hell is wrong with this country? A world-beating product, making a profit, and no-one wants to take it up?

Oh, sorry, how silly of me; it's 'manufacturing'. How ghastly. We only want to do nice clean things like meeja and services.

That's crazy. How can someone not want to buy a business that is clearly viable? As I understand it, they're the world's largest manufacturer of parachute material, the outdoor fabrics are an offshoot from that.

Was speaking to a guy in a local kite shop, and he says Carringtons are also stopping production of some of their fabrics. Since kite production has moved to the Far East, it's not economic to produce fabric in the UK and ship to Far East; they use locally-sourced fabrics.

It's a disgrace. If I had the money and commercial experience...

And what happens to all of the companies that are bound to be seriously affected by this, eg. Buffalo?

This is scandalous.

The government stepping in like they did at Rover, don't make me laugh. Since starting work my dad has seen the closure and relocation of carrington's last 4 factories. The last 10 years or so has been a constant stop start of 'we're viable, we're not viable, we're viable again etc repeated over and over.
The last few years Richard Branson kept the company afloat single handed with his numerous failed round the world hot air ballon attempts. Carringtons made all of them I believe.
But it looks like it will be all moving to the far east and the government won't help.
