Anybody know where i can get my hands on North Cape gear.

They used to make quite good fleeces and things. I've tried finding them on the internet without any luck.

Anybody know if they are still trading?

there was a website 'under construction' about a year ago and i think they were based in the blackburn/bury area, but i've seen or heard nowt since then.

i was looking for a natty little retro pile fleece jacket, but nothing came of it.

theres a thread on it gear i think, but it'll be from at least a year ago.

I always thought there gear was made in Scotland. I dont think they have a wide range though i use to just see the odd items (like baselayers) in different outdoor shops.

I thought that they went out of business a couple of years ago, but saw some of their stuff two weeks ago in Joe Browns at Capel Curig.

I only saw their baselayer stuff there, but didn't look at fleeces so cant say if there were any in stock.

Might be worth giving them a call.

Si

PS For anyone that remembers him, Drew Withey was working in there. WITHEY!!!!!

They used to be based and manufactured in Stirling, but they went under and the name and designs were bought by a Manchester based company, whose name escapes me, some kit is again available, now made in the far east.
I've seen it in Rathbones in Keswick and there is plenty of it on ebay, all new.
I used to like the underwear, long bodies for tucking in.

North Cape website

Whilst it says it's under construction, there is some product information.

They went under for a while, but they seem to be having another go. I got a brochure off them a while back, featuring many different types of base layers (the Rhovyl Therm is my winter base layer of choice), some fleeces, gloves, hats, waterproofs and daysacks.

And their Windproof gloves (if you can find them) are much warmer than windstopper.

Northcape are distributed by Outerwear brands based in Manchester 0161 476 7020 only a few old favourite lines have been continued with and new gear will be available very soon. The Rhovyl underwear is great stuff and still around.

My next door neighbour sells a few bits of theirs on ebay - didn't know she lived next door until I bought some, but at least it saved on postage!

Her name is kamijayne.

If anyone lives near Blackburn, there's a shop called outdoor action that was selling the thermal base layers a couple of months ago, not sure if they still have the stuff in as they've changed the shop around a bit.
