Cracking up a bit, in desperate need of a good windproof lighter, loads of choice. Anyone know a good one?

TurboFlame 2 - just don't try and take it to the USA as they'll confiscate it.
Daves right - although the turbo gas lighters tend to use a lot of gas very quickly. Zippo's are another option.
Zippo no good - been there!
The only two problems with the TurbFlame 2 are: As Neil so rightly pointed out, they drink gas compared to other lighters. They don't work above about 4000m

I had a cool turbo-flame style lighter that I got in Greece. It was in the shape of a Godzilla-type beast and the turbo flame came out of it's mouth.
It was ace, but the gas ran out after about 2 hours of playing with it!

I've got some sort of turbo flame, it's excellent. Why do the US confiscate them ? Hardly seems dangerous comaped to some of the stuff they sell in US shops.
No idea Bill. They let me take it in, and from Chicago to Denver and back, but wouldn't let me bring it back from Chicago to manchester. Apparently because it was pressurised it was dangerous and could also be used as a weapon.

What you planning on lighting Gordon? If it's just a stove, get a fire steel.
I can light my gas stove with a firesteel, however I dont think I would want to be doing it if I was cold and wet.
I have a lighter from the now defunct Gadget Shop that makes turbo flame lighters look crap :) it absolute eats gas though

these are supposed to be alright if a little bulky. Usually £15 (note when sold under the Brunton name they are more expensive)

As a smoker the availability of a flame is a life essential for me. I quickly learnt that one lighter is never enough. I now carry at least 2 with me everywhere.
The one windproof lighter that I use is the windmill JP2. It has a feature that most others lack. It has a nice ring on the bottom which allows me to clip it somewhere secure. To me this is vital. Lighters go walkies. They get lost, they get stolen, they get borrowed and forgot. Forget the technical specs of a lighter, most are pretty much the same. Get something you can attach securely to something else...preferably a couple of dobbermans on ASBO's...and make sure that after you use it you immediately re-attach it.
Did someone mention zippo's....I hate zippo's...I really hate zippo's...
...I mean it...I really, really, really hate zippo's
I'll get me coat...and me fags...

Yep i was gutted one day when i left me Zippo on the bus before going up Helvellyn, i remember on the top a load of old people sitting in the shelter, i was asking everybody for a light, did i get one? No chance, miserable old gits ;-) Anyway i managed all afternoon without a smoke (i'll show em i thought) then when i got down to the road i practically fell over the bar in the Badger Inn trying to get a light, give us a light i was pleading, it was the best smoke i'd had in a long while //^~^\\

Never ask people over sixty for a light...no matter what attire, manner,or age. It will always get you labeled as a crazed killer junkie yobbo.
So what's wrong with Zippo's David?
Yes what is wrong with Zippo's you crazed killer junkie yobbo You !
 I love my Zippo
 I love my brick !

Whatever turns you on, i suppose. ;-)

Apart from guzzling gas, heavy and making your pockets smell of petrol Zippos are fine.
