I would like to buy UK manufactured boots if possible and understand that Altberg is the single UK boot manufacturer. What is the word? Is their kit ok? Has anyone experience of Altberg stuff? and so on ...

They are supposed to be excellent - and I am glad you posted this as I was trying to remember the name of the firm so I could look at some motorbike boots (which I seem to remember they also make!)

Yeak they're famous for motorbike boots. Iseem to remeber they're good too, and make custom sizes. I also vaguely recall that make/made army boots, which are not so good. Oh well. Have tried searching the site and Forum for 'Altberg'?

I used to be issued with Altbergs for my work I cant remember the model but they wre the high leg ones I think they may have been the field and fell. I found that the had quite a high volume around my toes and over thebridge of my foot. buid quality was average and the leather used was i bit too cardboardy for my liking.. very prone to cuts. in the end the leaked after not too much wear at the flex point by my big toes. Thankfully I am now issued Matterhorns which are more expensive but I would reccomend without reservation but than I dont pay for them and therein lies the advantage that the altbergs have over Matts hope thats some help

Yeah I got sorted with some the other day, a place in Stafford, I got the fremington ones, look like a brasher hillmaster but a thousand times better. The lad that served me said it is possible to get them resoled in the factory if/when i wear them out. for £135 its the best boot i have had so far. Great across the peaks and in snowdonia.

I got some Fremington. Nice confy boot but quite slippery and the thread went quickly (mind you I walked a heck of a lot of miles in them, in just a year...). The leather cracked too, although I did not take care of them as much as I do with my current Scarpas, I wasn't either a slob who never cleaned them and put nourishing cream.
