I've been using the ME Firefly (Paclite) for a year or so, and purchased it on the basis of reviews here and in Trail etc. Quite frankly I don't like it since:

a) I sweat a lot and it doesn't breathe fast enough - reckon that's a problem I'm stuck with (is eVent any better?)

b) More importantly, it's too bl**dy short, as I'm 6'5". Now I know these lightweight jackets are short to keep the weight down, but what do us tall 'uns do? There must be something out there that has a longer cut.

c) It rustles.

So, I need your advice for a longer-than-normal, more-breathable than normal, reasonably "quiet" lightweight waterproof shell. Any ideas? Thx!

I do find eVent rather more breathable that Paclite, but it's not a panacea - I still get sweaty on warm, wet and humid summer days. Apparently the difference gets more noticable the colder it gets, though only having bought my eVent jacket a couple of months ago I haven't had chance to test this properly.

I do find my event jacket is less noisy than my paclite one.

Unfortunately, I can't really advise on the cut - my event jacket is a Lowe Alpine Elite which is (a) discontinued (but try the clearance shops) and (b) only just long enough for me (I'm 6'0").

My mums husband has the same problem with his height and I am sorry to tell you that the only waterproof he found that was long enough was a Peter Storm. Its not so bad for him as he walks with my mother who cannot got fast enough to get him sweating anyway.

For Winter use have a gander at Paramo jackets though if you run hot they may not be ideal, see if Rabs event jackets are any good they look quite good.

The Rab e vent is good and probably longer than most but whether or not its long enough for you I dont know.

At 6'4", I have a similar problem. Unless it's pishing down, I tend to use a baselayer and a Buffalo Windshirt, which has a "scooped" back. I've got a Berghaus Paclite Smock which comes out of my pack when the heaven's open. The long back on the smock is perfectly adequate for me.

In winter, I've been using a Paramo Velez which is long enough to cover my butt :o)

As it happens, I'm upgrading, this year, to the Alta II as my main winter shell. (Nice and long).

Just in case I get accused of Paramo Evangelism, I'm also giving serious consideration to the Berghaus Paclite Trek.

I'm also very tall. I've never found lightweight waterproof jackets to fit me either - it seems to be a real problem.

Marmot Precip pants are available in an extra long leg length. I don't know whether this is also true of the matching jacket - if so, it could be the solution, but I've never seen an extra long jacket on sale.

PHD designs make 'made to measure' waterproofs. Also Cioch make made to measure Paramo style waterproofs. they are what I use. Unfortunately however neither do anything particularly lightweight.

I have a RAB Corrie, its longer than the Latok Alpine, i.e. It covers your backside. I tried on a RAB Bergen in F&T and it seemed even longer than the Corrie.

If i had the cash i would definately sell my Corrie for the Bergen, however at the moment its not worth it since Autumn/Winter is on its way and i will be switching over to wearing my Paramo.

Some nice ideas here, if I distill them down I get:

Rab Corrie
Rab Bergen
Rab Latok Alpine

and...er...Peter Storm

Not much else so I guess Rab eVent gear must be the Dogs Bo***cks then.

Marko - forget the Rab Latok Alpine its only a short jacket more designed for climbers, the RAB Latok is the longer version, although as i said above i think the Bergen is the longest of them all.

I think more traditional walking jackets tend to be longer.

I hate short clothing-it is a similar problem for me in the women's clothing-there is nothing worse than really short t-shirts when you are walking that end up halfway up your back if you are wearing a pack.

Problem is more traditional garments have a less fitted cut-so getting something long and fitted is a major problem.

Maybe the Rab Bergen would be best for you?
