Need to a buy a new stove,it's between the MSR Dragonfly & the Optimus nova. But what one? Can anyone help please.

Got the dragonlfy in the summer to supplement my lightweight cannister stove. Love it.

+ points: Easy to use. cooks well, very controllable, sounds great.

- points: pump/presure system is a bit of a pain, especially when taking it apart as it has to be manually vented and usually ends up with fuel on your hands. expensive.

Would still buy it again.

Had my dragonfly for a year and a bit , what a stove !

This has to be the rocket powered GTI of stove s the noise certainly turns heads !

Only thing I found was it was too much hastle just to boil some water for tea so I got myself a Snowpeak gas stove for that requirement, for day hikes and the like....

No Knowledge of the other stove
Have an MSR XGK2 (One down from the Dragonfly) and love it, it is reliable, robust, and turns heads at campsites!!!!

Only - Point is on the XGK you can't simmer easily, but you can on the dragonfly

Have also now got a jetboil which I'll use for day hikes etc.

No experience with the Optimus one.

Just back from the Pyrenees where I used my Optimus Nova for a week - loved it (the trip AND the stove!). Powerful, reliable, controllable. Also stable and packs up pretty neat for a liquid fuel stove. Did 7 full days' cooking on about 1/2 litre of coleman fuel. Oh, and that sound - there's something so nice about the roar of a real stove!

I've had it about 15 months so far, and no problems whatsoever. I can't knock the MSR stoves but I can certainly recommend the Nova. I notice Chris Townsend is still rating it highly in this month's TGO too.

I originaly reviewed the Nova about 2 years ago. 2 seasons on and I'm still using it and the love affair continues. I should confess that I've never used the dragonfly and I've got little experience of the MSR stoves, but if it's reliability and (relative) ease of use you want, I believe the Nova is still right up there. Wouldn't change it for the world.
