Tent Packing

I own an Aztec Duro tent that has the advantages of being small, light and easy to pitch. However a main drawback is the size of the bag - packing it up is extremely difficult as the bag does not have any spare volume. Does anybody have any hints or tips on packing this tent or tents in general?

The tent can be pitched without separating the inner and outer parts; I imagine this makes it difficult to pack as the volume would not be evenly distributed when it is being rolled up. Again, has anybody found an easy way to do this?

All help appreciated! Thanks!

The best tip I can give you is to place the sac on the ground next to the tent when you're packing it up. Make sure that the last major fold before any rolling is the same size or slightly narrower than the length of the sac.

The other thing I always do is to tuck any loose straps or guys well inside out of the way while folding/rolling/whatever method you use.

Take a couple of bungees with you to strap around the tent after rolling/folding to cinch it in before stuffing it into the sac.

Sorry if you already know these and they sound like the bleeping obvious.

And you could always try packing it in a different bag.

Maybe an appropriately sized sleping bag stuff sack?

And then there are the people who are 'stuffers' instead of 'folders'....

Hi there,

I'd go for a different bag too. I find few things more irritating than having to spend ages sweating to get something back into a ridiculously small sack: T-Rests used to drive me up the wall!

<fx: pant, pant...>

Anyway... you could get away with a sturdy bin liner, or if you wanted something more robust then how about using a lightweight rucksack liner in an appropriate size? I have an amazingly light and sturdy waterproof Berghaus one.

Good luck :)

By the way, if you 'fold' and 'stuff' does that make you a 'stuffy folder' or a 'folding stuffer'?

I think it's an important question.

I agree it's an important question. I don't yet know the answer, though. I'm going out, now, with a friend, and I'll consider it over a couple of G&Ts. Will report back later...

Myra,

If you are having problems my advice would be to place the poles and pegs into the bag 1st, then stuff the tent in just like you would with your sleeping bag!

This normally does the trick.

If you fold your tent & keep all the folds in one plane before rolling it makes the roll smaller.
