I'm after a new 50L sack.  I'm not too bothered about weight as it'll generally be used for short trips.  Must be bombproof though cos it'll get chucked and kicked around quite a bit!  I'm 6'3".  I've made a short list (below) and I know I should try them all on but the nearest stockists are miles away so I'm willing to take a chance, order online and return any if they aren't suitable.  In no particular order they are.......

Vaude Astra II 55 + 10

Mammut Heron Element

Mammut Heron Light 55

Crux AK57

Deuter Futura Vario 50+10 2011

Deuter ACT Lite 50+10 Black 2012

Deuter Aircontact 50+10 SL Black 2012

Any suggestions, reviews, comments etc gladly received

IMHO Crux are bombproof. You realy need to try a few on to get a good fit.

Haglofs Matrix 50
Bombproof light enough for size and very well built.

You can also expand/shorten the back size if needed.

POD Cragsac. 47litres + 7 with a back size 3. No frills but very comfortable and bombproof construction.

I'm 6'5" and Cruz 47 is uncomfortable to me. Back length not too bad but the shoulder straps we're really uncomfortable. I know others rate it but it really does depend on you and fit on you.
If you but online make sure you can return if not fitting. I'm sure the law is with you on th at one.

The Aiguille Alpine packs come in different back lengths. are renowned for durability and made in Britain.

I've got a Deuter ACT Lite 40 + 10 - that's 50 litres in my book!

I'm 5'11" and there's plenty more height adjustment in it so it should fit you. Material is strong and it's only 1600 gms so that's a bonus.

6'3" here too. Like TP I never got on with a Crux AK47 and no idea if the 57 fits the same - the hard, long frame was near back of neck and bad for steep ground.

Aiguille Zephyr size long and POD Black Ice size 3 are my favourites and about your capacity requirements. Both are pretty bombproof to my mind.

Lowe Alpine Nanon 50-60, adjustable back system, 1.4kg.

I'm 6'3 and got the Deuter ACT Lite 50+10. Much more comfortable than the other sacks I tried. Like someone else said the material is bombproof.

Also like others I tried the Crux AK47 and didn't get on with it at all. The Aircontact and Vario seem heavy to me.

Macpac Pursuit comes in a choice of back sizes and is bomber.

Before ordering online, remember that something that seems okay may be less okay than something you haven't tried, and also that many trips take you by gear emporia where you can try...

Pete.
