My Terra Nova Ultra Quasar lets in water under my sleeping mat/bag or wherever else I press when camping on soggy ground.....this means 45 quid on a footprint or 'groundsheet'

grrrr

Get some window insulation film from Wickes and cut it to size.

Are you sure it isn't condensation?

Hi Mike

nope - I put it up then when I go to kneel inside I can feel my knees getting wet thru the floor - plus after a night the underside of my mat is soaking

I've had water pooling under my mat overnight when i had a Laserlite. It happened even on dry ground in winter if the conditions were right. I put it down to condensation due to the mat not having enough insulation, and warm body heat condensing on the cold tent floor. Who knows?

I use that Wickes stuff now on all my UL shelters, and don't have a problem. Water can be forced through groundsheets with a low HH.

If water is coming through instantly, then it obviously isn't condensation.

thats what I thought Mike - maybe they went too thin on the backpacker version?

I'm aware of sil-nylon having a low HH, and am prepared to live with it. I try to always spread my weight if pitched on wet ground, and try to avoid kneeling on the g/sheet alone. I don't think this should happen on a 'standard' tent though. I would fire off an email to TN. Don't they have a lifetime guarantee?

I think I will - I will be interested in their response (as the old threads go: do they still monitor this site?)

will get back to you

We had this on a 6 year old (but pretty lightly used) Hilleberg - they replaced the groundsheet without quibble.  Definitely try TN (what's the worst they can say?).
