Sorts Pursuit have some deals on Bergson outdoor clothing. I'm quite tempted by the Gambler softshell which is reduced from £98 to £30.

They seem to be a Polish company by what I can find on t'Internet and there doesn't seem t be any English reviews.

Anyone had any experience of them?

I've only seen a couple of soft shells in TK Maxx.  Looked okay, but nothing special; Regatta/Trespass sort of level, maybe a bit better.

Since www.bergson.pl appears to go to an ISP, I guess they've gone bung, and the URL has been reclaimed...

Recently got a Bergson, model Alpha trousers and a Omega fleece and been impressed by the quality of the products. Excellent breathable and fantastic light weight. Looked at rain jacket model Alpine unfortunately they has not my size so still looking for one as the design is awesome and the material is supra tex so for a expeditions jacket is the most have.. The comparison with Regatta is ignorant as isn't the case at all. I'll compare it with Berghaus probably or North Face but with a decent tag price attached. Excellent quality and design from an East European company and impressed that they are still not well known yet. Bergson are using the same materials as the other brands are using and the design is as good as the top brands is, Also the quality of the manufacturing is net superior the top brands that are using Chinese work force and charging the hell out of the money. Sad this brand has not fully yet entered on English market yet.

A big YES for this brand. Stay safe, now, Pablo G

thats quite a strong first post pablo.... sorry but have to ask if you are connected with this company at all??  apologies if you are not.

I'm not connected with the company and not looking do do any advertising to no one. Just trying to make clear a misunderstanding. I just liked the stuff and considered unfair to compare something above the average with a cheap below average brand. Apologise if offended someone or overacting.

Stay safe, Pablo G

All I know about them is I saw some in TKMaxx yesterday...  so maybe worth a look in TKM if you want some (I didn't look close up, just noticed it was there).

Pablo, I can only comment on the two items I've seen at TK Maxx, and those items are, IMO, of the quality I stated; marginally better than Regatta or Trespass. Both items were soft shells. Neither used a recognisable fabric, so probably an 'own brand' fabric, I.e. badge-engineered from one of the fabric mills. They did not use YKK zips, and the zips they used were rather 'scratchy'.

I can't say that I've seen other mainstream manufacturers using 'Supra Tex'.

The design featured a pseudo-raglan sleeve, with a partial dart on the shoulder, which is never a very satisfactory idea, neither is a shoulder seam. It used a five-panel design, but the side panels were very narrow, and parallel, and thus served no functional purpose ( they might have been shaped to give a better-tailored fit).

It had some nice touches, such as a microfibre lining and rolled top to the collar (but this is likely to wear easily), and decent, large mesh lined pockets, although it used a hanging bag design, and three layers of mesh on one pocket to allow an internal pocket.

It did feature 'MHW Synchro' style dotted tape reinforcement in places, but it looked more for style than function, and I had concerns for the bond strength.

The face fabric felt quite good, but the fleece inner felt quite cheap. The sewing was well done, but that's fairly usual these days.

Looking back through my collection of TKMaxx spots for comparison, I'd say a closer match is to Iguana skiwear, in quality and design.

I'm happy to agree to have a difference of opinions, but I don't think there's any 'misunderstanding' on my part; I've fondled enough kit over the years to judge quality pretty much at a glance, and, having gone back and taken a long look at it, my opinion hasn't changed much.

At ??25, though, they're certainly worth a look; as I said on the TK Maxx Watch thread In July; "looked okay for a standard, membrane, hard-faced fleece 'soft shell'"

I notice that their website now seems to have been resurrected...

Hello thought I would weigh in here. I tried reserching Bergson but only came across Polish sites too. Then I stumbled across this forum thinking it may give some advice. Anyway took the plunge and paid £49.99 for a Bergson Alpine SX hard shell jacket this seems to be it - http://odziezoutdoorowa.sklepy.pl/produkt/113946--alpine-sx-jacket-mens I got it in black. I purchased from TKMAX Leeds. The picture doesnt do it justice at all which is a shame as its a really smart jacket, it also has a fold away peaked hood also that doesnt feature in the link. I was a bit wary of this supra tex material as I hadnt seen it before, but it seems to do the job great. I have been out in a couple of rain storms with no leakage at all and it seams breathable also. I havnt been out in anything torrential yet so cant comment as to wether it will hold out. The tag on the coat claims the supra tex has 12,000mm water column /' 12.000mg breathability / windproof and taped seams. I can say its definatly wind proof and has with stood the rain to date (only had a week). The polish site is selling these at £166 (869 zlotis) so im quite made up with it. The quality is top notch and as good as if not better than my housemates goretex Mountain Equipment Changabang and leagues above my old Bergaus. I can only vouch for this one product as I havnt seen any of there other products and time will only tell if it will hold out to a real torrential downpoor. My polish workmate tranlated one of the tags on the coat stateing 36 in large text. Turns out this is a 36 month guarentee if you send it off to Poland, but I may give that a miss!! First time on this forum and only commenting because there seems to be nothing in English online about this company so hope this helps others.

I ordered some Hydrys Stretch three quarter length trousers/cropped trousers from the Sports Persuit website and they arrived on Friday so I wore them on a walk in the Dark Peak today.  The material is 85% nylon/15% elastine with a SPF 30 rating.  The weight and feel of the fabric is similar to that used by Craghoppers in their Stretch Kiwi Trousers.  They have four zipped pockets (2 front/1 back/1 leg).  In use I found the performance to be similar to the stretch Craghopper Kiwi trousers.  For most of the morning walking we had light drizzle and after circa 60 minutes they started to "wet out" but were still comfortable to wear.

At a price of £21 I would say they are very good value for money and the quality of the fabric is at least as good as the Craghoppers stretch legwear.

@ Pablo, Mat, Ashley:

It might be better posting the links to your shop directly, and it would be fair if you mark your postings as ad...

Not sure of the motive behind the previous post.  The response in my previous post was in effect a reply to the first post on this "thread" that asked if anyone had any experience of Bergson kit.  Previous threads have dealt with the Sports Pursuit website and the way that it operates and I did not mean my post to be a "plug" as such for this website more an honest initial opinion of my thoughts on the performance of the only Bergson kit that I own.  My only previous knowledge of the brand was when I saw some of their products in a shop in Warsaw circa 5 years ago.

Erwin, you may be right about new posters Pablo and Mat, but for the record Ashley has contributed to many OM discussions (you can see by hovering over his avatar space) and I'm sure isn't pushing any shop or advertising anything.

Interesting contribution from a new poster yourself. Anyway, welcome to OM.

"Not sure of the motive behind the previous post."

An even more bizarre development in 'placed testimonials'...?

I wonder how his cat is doing.

Read the thread with interest and having bought two Bergson soft shells from TKM I have to say they are an excellent piece of kit for rugged hiking especially now we are hitting the inclement weather period in the UK.  Construction quality is first class and whilst it does not have the branding of some top names they give the impression they are striving for that.  Interestingly there was a 36 month guarantee card included in the tags which supports the idea of a quality product.

As a reference I have quality kit from the likes of NF, Marmot, Haglofs, Lowe, Scarpa etc and this gear from Bergson does not feel out of place with that exalted company.

I saw Bergson products (jackets, fleeces, boots) in some Polish shops and they aren't looking bad. They are pretty expensive in Poland, most likely because this brand is sold mainly in mall shops. Anyway, from what I know, it is difficult to see a Bergson product in the Polish mountains, probably because with the same amount of money you can buy in Poland products made by more trustable brands from Poland, Czech Republic or from the big worldwide producers. About the jackets, I analyzed carefully a few of them and they were heavy, some of them not tailored for the outdoor and with no clear information about impermeability and respirability. The fleeces look like any other cheap fleeces with no branded zips or fabrics. Some of the boots were with Vibram sole but with no name membrane and their quality I think is comparable with some Karrimor boots.

So, in my opinion, if you find something made by Bergson highly discounted you can give it a try, but don't make the mistake to consider that just because it is expensive it's high quality too. Bergson for sure is not a top brand, in any country.

i purchased bergson kids ski jacket and trousers. i was also not sure about the quality and researched a bit. bergson seems to be a brand from maier sports not easy to find out much as i also only find polish pages but found this on the net. i think it but be the same stuff as maier sports which is a TOP brand for ski equipment on the german market in the same range as schoeffel and other top ski brands (sorry posting from germany).  http://www.bergson-shop.de/Bergson-Maedchen-Skijacke-LEXMOND-Deutsch.html

http://www.sportmarken-portal.de/Maier_Sports_Kinder_Funktions-Skijacke_Nadua_lilacwhite_allover.html

I purchased this jacket in turquise clolour and it looks the same as the maier sports one to me. also compared it with my maier sports ski trousers i have and there is very similar and materials feel the same with same look just differnt brand name. could it be that bergson is produced / introduced for polish market but really the same as maier sports? though this might be intersting.... I might try find the same jacket i bought from maier sports so (if find at same price) and sent bergson back just cause its the more recognised brand and then i am 100% sure....

(i am not connected to bergson company)
