Best way to clean North Face Hedgehogs?

Hey,

I would usually put my walking shoes on a light spin in the machine (in a pillow case) but wondering if anyone has recommendations on what's best for TNF hedgehogs? They're waterproof and I suspect that, as a result, they don't breathe as well after a walk - only a few big walks in and they smell pretty bad!

Cheers folks,

Michael

It's not really cleaning you're needing by the sounds of it if odour's the problem (and if you do clean them, it'll build up just as quickly next time). I use Schol odour control shoe spray and find it fantastic (especially if you spray it once, wait a day and spray again) and it even works in climbing shoes (which  are seriously prone to this problem due to no socks being worn). I'd advise against any of the shoe powders as they end up a gloopy mess.

Cheers mate,

Yeah i've used the schol stuff before and it was good. Right now i've blasted them a couple of times with another shoe/feet odour eater (can't remember the brand). Hopefully that'll do - i'm just not used to shoes smelling after such little use.

I have a pair of hedgehog 3 tall gtx I use for walking the dog and I usually just throw them in the washer on a low heat without any soap then just hang them on the line for a while, i do squirt a bit of that nikwax proofing on them too.

It seems to keep them fairly clean and water tight.

Only reason I dont put detergent in the wash is i thought your not supposed to with goretex type materials but i think you can use soap?

A new pair of innersoles once in a while helps with smell and comfort too.

Cheers, i think that could be worth a shot too - low heat + no detergent surely can't do too much harm.
