Gore-tex vs non goretex

Hi All

I have been looking at getting some new boots but i can't decide whether to go for gore-tex lined or not.

Alot of the walking i do is on the north york moors which can be extremly boggy even in the summer.

my feet get quite hot and sweaty in gore-tex lined boots so i was thinking of getting non lined ones but was worried that they wouldnt stand up to long hikes across wet and boggy moors!

The boots i was thinking of were the gore-text scarpa ZG10 and the Scarpa Nepal.

any advice would be appreciated

cheers

Andy, take a look at my review on the AKU Conero GTX. I've used those on a hot summer's day on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path with medium weight Smartwool socks. I also paraglide in the Brecons through summer. I always have feet that are dry and comfy.
Aku use an outter fabric (Air 8000 I think) that is supposed to be far more breathable than standard fabric outters. Their theory is that there's no point in having a breathable membrane if the outter doesn't let that breath. (I believe they think all this use by others of XCR is a waste because other boots just don't breath as well anyway.)

Blimey, don't know. If you're off to the Outdoors Show they have a good stand there.

Unfortunately cant make the outdoors show, bit gutted about that as i thought it might be a good place to find some more info out on boots etc.

Ive had a quick look around the net and it seems as if they go up to a 13, getting hold of a pair to try on could be a problem, as its bad enough with scarpa or raichle lol

any store you go to can get size 13 as the distributer holds them in stock. The new Vertigo is an updated version of the Conero that might be worth trying, where are you based and i'll find out your local stockest

HI Im based in the north east near middlesbrough but dont mind traveling to newcastle etc.

All the places ive tried to get boots in a 13 for me have basically laughed and when asked to order them in said no.

well not doing to well with the info i've got, (i only cover the south for Ardblair Sports Importers), Probably best to ring head office - 01250 873863 or visit our web www.ardblairsports.com.

Alternatively if you know a really good outdoor retailer locally that stocks Leki they will be able to get Aku boots as we distribute both brands so you might be able to persuade them to get a pair in for you to try (whatever they say we hold 13's in stock)

sorry that all i can suggest! Good luck in finding a pair
