I'm probably the last person in the world to know this but `Oat so simple' porridge is now available in a just add hot water pot. So, transfer it into a pour and store bag and hot porridge without the washing up.

Well... if it makes you feel any better... I must be the second to last person to know.

I only spotted those pots for the first time last week. I've never used the stuff, preferring muesli, but it did strike me as a convenient fix for breakfast. My only concern would be the need to carry lots of individual pots, which are mostly empty space. I would be more likely to buy the stuff if the mixture was available in a bag, and I could choose how much to decant into a pot before adding the hot water.

Do pay attention Paddy. Empty the pots into `Pour'n 'store bags.

Been using them for a few months - stick 2 in a Pour n Store bag, ideal for breakfast! A bit lazy, I know, but it's much easier than decanting the normal packets into a Pour n Store and then having to measure out the dried milk.

I know... I know... but it would still make more sense to sell the stuff in kilo bags!

I'd feel a bit guilty throwing away lots of unused plastic pots, given that they're still going to be cluttering up the planet long after I've crumbled to dust.

Recycling bin!

I'm going to plant an acorn in each one

I'm sticking with muesli!

My way of dealing with it...

Pour a generous measure of muesli (the fruitier the better) into one of those light folding plastic bowls. Squirt some condensed milk on top. Add chopped banana, if said banana has survived the trip so far. Add boiling water. Enjoy!

After a breakfast like that, I'll probably keep going for 10-12 hours without eating anything else!

they look an expensive* way to buy 1/2 a portion of porridge to me. ( and generate more rubbish ).

I mostly have muesli and powdered milk- add hot water. might try Paddys condensed milk method.

*surprised at you Mick. Or are they available in multipacks at Poundland?

( 1.5 meals of porridge for £2?  Bargain)

Micks a walking cash machine..

Porridge

Shredded wheat, roasted hazelnuts and pinenuts, instant oats (the food supplement kind not that lumpy stuff) and palatinose.

Eaten after you've walked for a bit....for some reason I generally don't fancy /enjoy breakfast when backpacking but after an hour of walking makes it more welcome..

I'm very fond of my condensed milk when I go camping...

I bought several tubes of condensed milk on a visit to Nice and the Maritime Alps a couple of weeks or so ago. Can't get the stuff anywhere near me, and the last bulk buy I did was in Sardinia, which is long gone.

As for muesli, every so often a shop in town gets tons of the stuff in at knock-down prices, and I keep going back for as much as I can carry, then enjoy eating the stuff at home and abroad at my leisure. I'd never pay the market price for it!

I can go and get you some at Tesco Paddy...

I took a tip from Nesbit and use the Birds instant custard which you mix with hot water. Half a pack of that and some oat so simple in a pour'n'store...

Omm, nom, nom...

Sig's are a waste of bandwidth...

Normally, at this point, I'd jump in and extol the virtues of Stoats Porridge Bars. However, my local Deli wanted £1.60 for a single bar so I won't. F**k you, Stoats, I'll make my own, thanks.

"Oats so simple" is cack btw. MYOP* is the way forward.
